I'm somewhat concerned about the state of my mind because of that, but the first one looks to me like...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Must be the shading.

The first one meaning the Dove? If so, I'm not surprised that it reminds you of birds. If you mean the Birch Forest, well, I have no idea.

The Dove, and it's not birds. You missed the visual pun.

Clearly. I have no idea what you are referring to.

I haven't had much inspiration lately, but this is the best thing I've made.

Very heavily influenced by the painting Joseph Arthur did in his video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98agX9axcd0) Watch Our Shadows Run.

Thanks!

Although, which one are you referring to?

"Those" is plural for:

Nice texture in this one, right amount of structure and chaos, looks like it might be an often-used symbol in a modern RPG. Paint on a stone relief?

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5711300#msg5711300
My English language skills are failing me currently, so I hope the strange choice of words won't be too bad.
Nice *plateaus* in the clouds with occasional *smears*. The texture and color *shaking* makes this *special*.
I definitely play too much UQM.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5711978#msg5711978
Again, paint on stone, but this time it's a gravure and the background is also painted.
The idea that it's a comet is quite nice, although I can also see the thorns for which you named it, hints of the spiderweb you intended and an eye. But I guess humans can see eyes almost everywhere.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5712311#msg5712311
I think the mouth is too defined, but that's just nitpicking.
Nice contrast between *stripey* and *splatty* texture.
Also quite the serious face. That speaks to me for some reason. Makes it a bit... "hilarious" is too strong of a word.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5715239#msg5715239
You really know your textures. Damn.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5733163#msg5733163 (The Respectful Android)
What can I say? It's abstract, the face looking around the corner is somewhere between creepy, adorable and, well, respectful distance.
The bright spot seems like the back of a head to me. There is a story there, but it's vague. I like that.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5747574#msg5747574
I wouldn't see the dove without the title, but the flowing form with being upward in European reading direction (which I am used to) makes the idea clear.
Also: Nice colors.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5755800#msg5755800
Simple and moody drawing. Reminds me of some books I read when I was younger. Sadly I don't remember what those books where about (or what even the genre was), but I am thinking of a more *quiet* mood with maybe a hint of being creepy.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=144056.msg5795528#msg5795528
Only after spotting the figure in the valley. The pose speaks volumes.

Wow. Thanks. I didn't expect to get so much positive feedback on this kind of stuff.

By the way, I did all of these in Photoshop, so no real paint on any real thing.

For your comment about the eyes, that's definitely true, so many of my stuff I've wanted to name after eyes, until I looked at it a little longer to find a better description.
Also, what do you mean by European reading direction? I don't believe that I've ever heard of it, so.

I think perhaps I should post spoilered descriptions of this stuff so that people can read them if they choose. I'll probably do the ones for the stuff I already put up in another post.

And now:

In most (all?) parts of the western world the reading direction is from left to right, as opposed to right to left (Hebrew and Arabian are examples I think?) or top to bottom. That's what I meant.

I thought these where digital. I recognize a few filters.
I think this shouldn't influence my judgment. What matters is the effect on me, not how you achieved it.

Oh okay, I see. I was just confused as you said "upward in the European reading direction", I thought you had meant that the reading direction was upwards.

And I certainly agree with your last point, I just figured I'd mention it.

And also, another thing. I'm not really sure about a title for it, but I like it enough to share it.

That is haunting. Although I could imagine the picture with everything but the hand and arm being… uhm… reduced? to swirls.
It's what caught my eyes first and would make it ambivalent whether the hand was aggressive or desperate for a hold.

Oh, yeah, I can see how that might be misunderstood. What I meant to say was that the shapes where pointing upwards if they were read in European reading direction. The other way round they'd be pointing downwards.

Do you mean without everything being reduced to swirls? Because it looks pretty swirly to me. I maybe could try, although if I leave the original image too intact it wouldn't look good, because it's a pretty darn boring image.

So I made some new things too.

The Sunrise of Tomorrow:

But I zoomed it in a little, because it looked a little too disordered:

and I'm not quite sure which one I prefer.

Also I made some random things today, but I don't have titles or anything, so I'll just throw them below:

Nono, I mean reduced so much that the room and head aren't discernible anymore. Right now they may have no details but they're still there and I can even make out the door and where the (your?) mouth and eyes are. It should be blended together so that only the hand is left as an object while everything else should vanish into the texture.

I prefer the first Sunrise of Tomorrow. Those make me crave hot lemon juice.

To the spoilered ones:
1. Cloudface, although xface probably works for almost anything. "Hammerhead Will Eat The World"? Looks like he's looking down, thinking: "Yeah, that looks tasty."
2. Looks like smoke.
3. I like how the snow on the roofs blends with the sky. I only realized these were rooftops after taking a closer look.

Oh okay I can do that at some point. I considered just straight taking everything out of the picture except the hand, but I'll probably a have a little bit of something in the background so it isn't too dull. And yup, it's me.

1. Sorry, what?
2. Actually this one was kind of interesting. It was originally a picture of ice, and apparently my face got caught extremely vaguely in the reflection, so vaguely I didn't even notice until I started messing around with it.

Also thanks for continuing to keep up with this thread and respond to it.

1. Well, I see a deformed head there. "Hammer"head is maybe a bit off, maybe "blockhead" or something like that may be more appropriate. The mouth is the most defined, with upper and lower lip, the surrounding musculature and even a double chin or a beard. The nose and eyes above that are less defined and one eye (the picture-left one) sits directly besides the nose while the other one is higher up. There also is a shoulder, which is not part of the cloudthing, but rather a lighter curve in the red background. The picture-left shadow at the edge of the cloud also looks kinda like an ear.
To me the face looks a bit contemplative and as if looking from above and somehow I associate that in this case with someone looking at food. Probably because it looks so cloudy, I see that face as extraordinarily huge, so "Blockhead will eat the world".

2. Huh, I would have never guessed and also cannot see any face. Well, there is one in the bottom left, looking down, but that's hardly yours.

Well, thanks for making these pictures. I like them and they make me activate my brain. I need that.
