You might also want to tweak the orientation flags when you change the gender.  Those are in status > current_soul > orientation flags.
Does anyone have preferences?

If we're starting fresh, then I'll just take whatever is randomly generated.

Select a dwarf (but do not "view" it).
I forgot to ask earlier: does viewing them mess up the change of gender? If it doesn't, then I could try to get similar personalities?

Viewing it just makes the command to open it up with gui\gm-editor fail because you need to be in list view for it to work.  Otherwise, viewing it doesn't do anything bad, just prevents you from jiggling the memory around.

I'M HERE!

You all know what the legendary "I'm not dead!" Phrase means when it's associated with creative projects. It basically means "I'm Dead."

SO i will just go ahead and say "Hey guys, I'm dead. It doesnt stop me from updating though. Here, have the ramblings of a goddamn zombie."

also, yeah, internet issues.

Thanks for handing me that excuse on a silver plate, Taco.

What a speech.
Eagerly awaiting the progression of this dwarven social experiment.

Shall i just post the rest of it (that's still a whole big bunch) now or is that enough for some journals already?

Welcome back!

*skims* I think I can work an entry out of that and "patiently" wait. If you don't post the rest today, would the next update be tomorrow?

I swear by everything that you can think of you WILL GET the End of Year One BY TOMORROW, even if it means i'll have to break into some house to get internet access.

Right now, i'm setting up the Journal Thread and tidying this one up so it's purely for discussion. his will take an hour or so, so feel free to post the last journals in here, i will add them after i pasted everything over.

Congrats on your latest trip around the sun.  ;)

Also, just to make sure I'm understanding: I post my journal entries into that thread starting tomorrow, right?

exactly. that way nobody will miss any updates and nobody has to skim through loads of OOC to find any story relevant stuff.

having compiled everything now, i'm surprised at how much content we already collected.
I'm super motivated now!

I was just wondering, if we have peasants on the turn list who are due to be overseers do they HAVE to be the ones accepted into the mountain on that occasion?  or can they work that into the story however they like?

ahahahahaaa!

i love how ~every single one~ of those journals contains something among the lines of "plans" and "coming to frution"...

if this gets good, it might very well become the dwarfiest of fortresses that's ever been made!

In retrospect, i think that would be too forced to be authentic and would effectively undo the voting system.
I'd say overseership should not be forced into canon. when a peasant gets to play a round and is NOT voted into the mountain, the canonical Dwarf in charge should still be the old one; The new overseer gets some leading position in the slums instead, be it the new militia captain everybody listens to, or a great revolutionist, or the head of the biggest group of workers, or whatever fits. Of course, progress should be made on both sides as always, but how the story is told could of course vastly differ from a turn from up in the mountain.
