My best artifact was actually a pair of artifacts, a burningsteel longsword and platinum shield. They had images of each other on them, well, actually, the creation of each other. Gave them to my militia commander, they served him well.

That sweet sweet candy battle axe had 3 or 4 thousand kills on it. Mostly cripples, but still.

I don't know how this worked and its been a while for me since this one, but I was playing a mod pack and one dwarf made a bone crossbow. The bone he picked up was his own mother's skull, and the decorations were his (still living) daughter's teeth, along with some gemstone spikes.

Since it was a possession and he was a marksdwarf, I assigned the weapon to him. He then proceeded to bash goblin heads with the mother the goblins killed and the teeth he knocked out. I really wish I had my old computer, cause I would upload that in a heartbeat. It's been a year and a half since that fun.

I don't know if the artifact itself was that interesting, but the materials were hilarious, as was the fact that he was better at bashing than he was at shooting, which is a testament to the lack of wisdom and common sense of dwarves.
