The dwarves currently don't even know how to get the seeds out of the pods at all

Now I have a mental image of dwarves standing around a table with a peapod on it, scratching their heads.

Now I have an image of Urist running up to split the One Pod lying on the table with his war axe, and failing miserably Gimli-style.
"Well what are we waiting for?!"

That still only counts for one!

Wasn't it Gimli who looked at Legolas? Or were you being ironic lol. My family watches the trilogy every thanksgiving so I can quote damn near the entire movie.

We might have reached an apex of bounty before we start reeling some of it back over time now, unless some other random food source suddenly arises...

From my experience with the new plant gathering option and now harvestable trees in DF2014 food does seem much easier to come by compared to 34.11.
I'm in year 36 of my current fortress and I don't believe I've lost a single dwarf to hunger.
But then thinking back, I supposed the ease of fishing and the high yield of farming, food has never been a major issue for me.

'Twas a joke based on it actually being Gimli who said that about the Oliphaunt, lol.

It's actually kind of hypnotic watching them scooting the ladder around to pick fruit.

Now though, I have to build a bigger curtain wall so they can harvest safely.

Now we just need grazers eating out of trees, and maybe vermin plant-eaters

Would giraffes be able to eat out of very tall trees, or would we have to wait for multi-tile creatures?

Black rhinos and deer would eat the low-dangling leaves of trees. Especially young trees.
Not all trees' branches are up high. *shows you images of birches, willows, firs*

Looks like DF2014 is now mostly complete, right?

Downloading it to have fun with the trees then.

By the way, thanks a lot Toady, for all your work during these long years, it brought me (us?) a lot of fun.
