I kinda envisioned basilisk as having poisonous teeth that work as giant spears, penetrating everything. Probably not even likely to inject anything, since any attack would just go straight through most normal-sized bodies.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Necrosis is a definite kill. Dragonfire can be block. Necrosis cannot be blocked. That thing could solo it's way through nations.

Jokes aside though, Dwarf Fort could use some more lovecraftian horrors. I mean more creatures that don't conform to regular biology.
Evil caverns could be a great place to add some subterranean nightmares.

Oh yeah. I'll pop them in, along with the unique body shape, the new gem, and maybe the mountain dragon, since I consider him a part of those two, in here. Mountain Dragon>Phoenix. Phoenix>Purgatory Wold. Purgatory Wolf>Mountain Dragon.
You never did add in the raws for them.

Have fun with those! They're all rather strong. I'd ay the biggest threat in fortress mode is the phoenix, as it can set stuff on fire. But that one also gives you rubies and star rubies.

I always toss in something original to all my creatures. Relevant example: a phoenix with six wings. When I did a cerberus creature, I gave it horns on each head. My draconians had the ability to stand on their tails. I'm thinking of giving the great wolf a grasping tail, or iron claws and teeth.

There is a distinct lack of East-Asian monsters here. I'm no good at RAWs, but here are my ideas:

Orochi: Giant, 8-headed snake that smashes it's way into settlements intent on drinking all the booze stores, eating all the food, and then smashing it's way out again, killing anyone or thing that gets in it's way. Japanese legends claim the Orochi was gigantic enough to carve out rivers wherever it went, but it was mostly dangerous because of the famines and droughts that followed the rampage should a village fail to appease it with sacrifices.

Death Worm: The most probable inspiration for all those "sand-worms in space", the Death Worm's mouth is wide enough to swallow a couple live camels and their riders from below without any warning or trace that it was there. If at all possible, the Death Worm should be restricted to moving in sandy deserts. In some versions, Death worms are said to secrete a paralytic venom to keep struggling live prey from damaging it's vulnerable body, while in others, it's made of stone and victims are crushed before they get their bearings.

It's actually a Persian monster feared for it's ability to carry off bull elephants, but the Macedonian conquest pushed the legend into India and they gave it their own twist. Looked it up on Wikipedia, it's probably the other way around.

Just out of curiosity, because I'm not sure how damage system actually work - is it possible to have important body part to be so surrounded by appendages it can't be reached fore appendages are cleared out?

If I is, I might get to code my own creature, if it isn't, there's little point.
