DF is older still.
... and? We've had no less than two major releases since 2011. Any information on that thread is incredibly outdated. The relative age of DF itself is irrelevant.

A race so small, that it can't use equipment, but is made of slade, with adamantine claws and teeth. Max size of 1. Legendary in all fighting skills.

The raws aren't completely new. Some additions would need to be made but updating might be faster than starting from scratch.

Yeah, updating from 0.31 is probably faster than scratch. All you need to change are:

1. Bodies (HUMANOID -> HUMANOID_NECK etc.)
2. Gaits (SPEED and SWIM_SPEED no longer exist)
3. Attack prepare and recover times
4. Overhaul your plants
5. Replace any breath attacks with interactions
6. Add values to entities

There's probably more I'm forgetting; 0.31-0.34 was a while ago.
