Idea-Awful Community Mod Project

I have a proposal: Work together to create a mod that alters DF in a way that frakks up the gameplay for hilarity. Here are some ideas:

  • Switching the places of Microcline and adamantine.
  • Bikini Armor...with realistic results!
  • [TRAPAVOID] and [LOCKPICK] on Goblins.
  • A megabeast with every single good tag and interaction.
  • Tribbles! :D

Add squiddles as a playable race.

Add invading serrated disc creatures.

Sword trees, money trees, husking-cloud trees...

Make dwarves periodically belch toxic gas.

Give trolls a "shitpost" interaction that enrages nearby creatures.

friggin a these are good ideas i gotta remember these

particularly cantankerous creatures enraging foes with their obnoxiousness is... an annoying sentence, but also a possibly interesting mechanic

I built tribbles for the LOLmod in 0.34.  They cut your FPS by 90% in about a minute.  So they can destroy your fort, but it's more like the time dilation of approaching a black hole than it is being overrun by furry things.

my ice lizard.....its meant to be melt able only by magma but for some reason it only melts if its dead. and the heat wont kill it....so it swims in magma soooo...lets fix that and add it in shall we? (still need to fix its biomes to)

OR maybe give there blood a syndrome? there weak but if it induced necrosis...

The lizard's ICE material has no heat damage point, so it is impervious to heat while the creature is alive.

There was a mod ages ago that replaced all the stone with types of candy and cakes. Mine out veins of marzipan, shortcake and gingerbread. You can build gingerbread houses then, but you need to have reactions to turn the candy boulders into edible plant forms if you want to eat them (form controls allowed usage, not the material). You could also have reaction instead, where dorfs can bake gingerbread from ingredients, then turn stacks of that into gingerbread boulders, but mining the sweets is more silly.

WAY more targetable bodyparts! Make fights end in death-by-a-thousand-papercuts as combatants hack at each others nostrils, earlobes and individual joints!

Make all kinds of pants foreign to dwarves. Now destroying elven caravans presents a real conflict of interest.

Babies are annoying, right? Wouldn't it be nice if most dwarves were born from castes that had entertaining syndromes from the beginning? Exploding babies, babies that crap gold when scared, babies that turn out to be kobolds in disguises...

Fulfill the "beards control dwarves" -meme by making beards a proper bodypart that works as a second thought center.

There have been a few group "silly mods", but I find them lacking in interest unless there's a strong theme tying the changes together. You might as well just run a token randomizer on the RAWS otherwise: look at some results of RAW duplication, unicorn diplomats or whatever you end up with. If your silly-mod isn't at least that level of entertaining, I can't see how it's worthwhile.

Throw in too many daft things like dwarf babies that explode for no reason, and you just end up with "unplayable mod".
