Size and Targetability Question
« on: November 25, 2014, 10:37:53 pm »

Does a creature's body size determine how easy it is to be hit by others?  I know that other systems such as D&D have it under the logic that larger creatures take up so much relative mass that it's much harder to miss them, but I don't recall anything like that being a factor in DF.

Anecdotally (without looking at disassembly or anything) size doesn't seem to matter for chance-to-hit. Relative skill levels, and facing (flanking/backstabbing) appear to matter much more in DF.

DF doesn't appear to have "critical miss" situations. Creatures automatically hit unless the opponent dodges/blocks/parries in some way. Unconscious opponents are automatic hits (I have never seen a miss in that case).

DF "hits" seem to mean pounding the other person's armor like a can opener, whereas D&D (at least 2nd and 3rd ed) "hits" means that you managed to poke someone through a gap/weak spot in the armor.
