In my last fort I finally got my first truly useful artifact weapon, an adamantine battle axe... just in time to put it to good use welcoming the circus.

From one earlier fort I still remember the two consecutive leather artifacts:

- "The Memory of Fondling", a goat leather left mitten and
- "Purgeloves", a grizzly bear leather short skirt.

Those made me to pay closer attention to what the dwarves were doing in their free time. That fort was suspiciously keen on all leather clothing anyway...

I didn't know there were skirts in the game. Also, I was positive there were dresses at one point.

Furniture is always wonderful. Bracelets are so annoying. That's why I've added that mod for a display cabinet: I was so annoyed by a fort which had no less than six craft/clothing moods. I didn't want that to happen again.

DFhack let's you display things on tables. I wonder if it has an actual effect on the dwarves. Like can they view the artefact or other item and get happy thoughts...

Just as I wrote the last reply I happened to get my first fell mood in any fort: a stressed bone carver roared with laughter and made a dwarf bone helm out of a passing woodcutter... named "The Basement of Murder." How appropriate.

oh man... I've wanted a fell mood since before when I played. I would settle for a macabre mood while the elves are at the trade depot tho.

I don't know much about DFHack, I'm sorry. I followed this thread and this thread and this thread to their obvious conclusion.

I've had a fort where high boots (my favourite dwarf armour) were "foreign". I've had other forts where robes were "foreign". You're just in a fort where dresses are "foreign". Mostly I see skirts for sale from the elves. No kilts as yet. Imagine a fort where socks were thought of as "foreign"....  :o

I was for a long time confused by the fact that they only sold one thong at a time. What was I meant to put on the other foot of that dwarf? A boot? That would look pretty odd. Also, workplace regulations for wearing uncovered shoes in a smelting workshop seemed pretty scary.... Then I realised that this was a game made by Americans. XD XD XD There was this moment of "oooooh  ::) :-[, that's the first underwear I've seen in the game! Ha!"    :D

I had a dwarf make a leather dress out of his wife decorated with pictures of his only child getting ripped apart by goblins. (Specifically, they ripped most of his limbs off and then the kid was beaten to death with his own arm.)

The one I remember best was the first time a weaponsmith had a fey mood and grabbed some adamantine wafers. He gathered tons of valuable materials, worked for a good long while, and produced a wonderful. adamantine. warhammer.

You should recruit him and make him a hammerlord.
When he dies, bury him with the hammer.

I feel your pain. I had an excellent and lovely female dorf who loved all things axes according to her profile. She mooded, finally.... and made a wooden training axe. She had the ability to work metal, she had the metals on hand (including plenty of steel) but she used the metals for one thing only: Decoration on her training axe  :'(.  I felt like drafting her to her own unit, and getting her to take that training axe into battle, then burying her with it when it didn't turn out to be a very useful weapon.

I only have the best quality stuff, like

- turkey bone halberd
- turkey bone coffin - 10800 ☼
- bayberry wood ring - 4800 ☼
- willow cup - 12000 ☼
- limestone bracelet - 15000 ☼
- porcupine bone earring - 2400 ☼
- gingko wood splint - 4800 ☼
- yak bone left gauntlet - 2500 ☼

Those are not useful, though. I had a silver artifact crossbow but one idiot left it outside the fortress and a monkey stole it. Two my super craftsdorves have went insane after wanting more  cloth, wood, rough gems and bones so YAY, fail idiots as those are crappiest material you can find everywhere here.

Leatherworker went berserk, my guards attacked her and her baby, and apparently attacking her baby triggered a civil war. How cute.

Ouch :D
Discovered I remembered it wrong, too; it wasn't a fey mood, but a possession, so not even a skill gain :P

My favorite artifact so far:  Idashkurikthidas, The Moist Thorn-Frill, a marble toy boat worth 112,800 dwarfbucks.

"This is a marble toy boat.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encrusted with cushion marble cabochons, studded with copper and encircled with bands of cushion marble cabochons, pear cut honey yellow beryls and cave spider silk.  This object is adorned with hanging rings of alligator bone and menaces with spikes of honey yellow beryl.  On the item is an image of Bomrek Blankettools the dwarf in marble.
"On the item is an image of The Moist Thorn-Frill the marble toy boat in honey yellow beryl.
"On the item is an image of two rubber trees in honey yellow beryl."

In other words, it's a self-referential marble toy boat.

I once had a pig tail fiber short skirt, which was decorated with elf bone. On the skirt was an image of an elf being killed by a goblin five hundred years ago.

That dwarf really seemed to hate elves, is what I'm saying.
