Zombie pathing test (campfire ai abuse)
« on: December 13, 2014, 02:18:54 pm »

Yo.  Due to questions about it, and my own need to explore what could be a bug; as well as simple curiosity.  How smart are the Zmen?

Well . . .  I may have found a new way to sneak into towers.  Ill pop a video or two in here when I run them.

success.

Hopefully this helps others clear the necro towers of zombies, leaving just the peaceful necromancers

Theory is sound.  Zombie wont jump the campfires.  I generally doubt boogeyment will either.  Ill next be showcasing a maze to draw as many as possible out.

Do note I couldn't create campfires on tiles with boulders.  They also kept trying to climb the tower to get over the fires.

Using fire to guide the zombies towards the killing path? Neat!

Fire-pathing abuse take 2  Oddly less successful, imo, than the concept test.

I used uncontrolled fires to break their pathing while I set up.
I could then work in peace.

The plan next time is to not add more fires, but to circle around the back and draw them farther away from the door.

My last seriously trained hero died horribly due to zombies at a necromancer tower, so I'll take this. :)

And it worked.  Im inside, and I only had to edit out all of my victory dance!  But it was sweet.

Gah, it took longer to edit it than to set it up. >.<

lol @ the name of the book.

How did you get the fires down before the zombies came swarming out of the tower?

Sneak-crawling, and sprinting both work.  It appears to not be an infinite range for spotting you, its just that the initial plop-in from fast travel leaves in in terrible sneaking position.  They can sense you through the wall via sneak checks, not what mummy's do.

Zombies retain any interactions that had in life, and I gave elves and goblins interactions to make them more effective in combat.

That Elf curse is not the same curse as a mummy, it adds weakness to wood.
The goblins make you nauseous and numb.  And dizzy on a bad day.

But they can only use those if you arent already affected by them, to prevent spam.  Its just a custom add-in, and doesn't hold bearing on the results.

Combine this with overpowered throwing, and you got yourself a meat processor.

This is a very nice set up. I'll have to try this if I make a necromancer. I generally prefer to avoid unnecessary combats, particularly the endless kiting.

so silly idea but if you campfire wall up companion archers(better if you told them to wait) then set up a kite path, would you be able to cut down the zombie horde this way.

Though you still have the matter of dealing with zombies on the inside.
Oh good thing we can stock up and trade items with anyone willingly to talk now because another problem would be to rearm those companions.

You are not going to outrun zombies in the long term.  They don't fatigue, and unless you can out-sprint them  they'll get you.  Thus, you would have to develop a method of jumping to safe spots and then out of those spots to lure them into your circle.  But yes.  Could be done.  Ive never seen a 40.xx zombie killed by arrow/bolts, but Im sure somebody could do it, with enough skill.

That would, however, be good for training up companions, with enough arrows.

---

Do however keep in mind that this is a do or die event for your companions.  Either the zombies all die, or they wont be able to get away.  You might be able to play with cheesing them away via fast travel, but the moment the fires go out the zombies will swarm them.
