Dwarven cradle
« on: January 05, 2015, 08:28:53 pm »

Dwarven mothers should be able to put down their babies when they need to do something. I think there should be a piece of furniture that allows them to drop off their baby and leave it somewhere while they run off to stab goblins or chase away ravens. I imagine it having functionality similar to a bed or chair where it can be made into a room and made public (perhaps with a infant care labor so the player can just keep a few nursery workers similar to hospital staff) or given to a specific dwarf/family (maybe have family be the ones that take care of them here).

A quick search of this forum showed that some people had discussed it, but nobody had actually made a thread about it, so I am putting it out there now so hopefully it can be added to a later release.

Do babies eat/drink yet?
Do new mothers eat/drink more when their baby mounts them?

I could only imagine the look on the face of a goblin snatcher if he walked into that room.

Hehe. Knowing DF, he should be terrified because the babies are probably live bait for some elaborate trap he just walked into.

I like it, bonus points if family members treat the filled cradle like a meeting zone to "babysit" and build up the infant's social skills, that sounds like a reasonable habit to have in a world where baby-snatching is not only common but entirely expected for goblins to try.

Yes, good.  When were cribs invented?  Those would be a neat "foreign" furniture piece to buy from humans.

Hey urist, happy birthday!  You are 1 year old today, do you know that means?  Well, it means you get to go play outside; unsupervised for some reason.  Mind the invisible goblins, I hear they eat tree huggers!

I do wish to say the old mother-mounted baby is a nifty mechanic, though.

Using cribs, we could also make a few toys for the babies that are placed in there, and if there is a daycare, it could promote social activity with the babies playing with each other with the toys.  Toys wouldn't be needed, but they would make the affects greater.

And thus tons of babies died because the infant carer was on break.
