According to the wiki, there are 155 different seeds that can be stockpiled.  Some of the plants are remarkably redundant, like: single-grain wheat, double-grain wheat, soft wheat, hard wheat.  Its a bit excessive...

Yup.  The previous edition had just DF flavored plants.  Now we have a lot of real-world above-ground plants and the useless seeds for a large number of trees.

If you brew tree fruit, you get tree seeds. You can't plant them, though.

Some trees also drop nuts (like Chestnuts).  I think, if one wanted, one could mod a tree to drop gold coins.   :)

And there's bound to be a way to get the trees to drop something useful for an elf mod.

Feather trees currently drop eggs, so it's really anything.

I like all the plants, a lot of them are biome-specific so you won't see most of them in any one fortress. Pineapples never grow in the same areas as 3-sheaf wheat, for instance. Though last I checked, seeds from fruit-trees like pears and persimmons don't even show up in the kitchen list even though they take up bags and storage space.

Oh yeah 0.40 trees, out of memory :
- They creates clouds of materials, you can make horrible evil trees that rain fire and death (I will  :P)
- The fruits themselves are quite flexible too
- Oh and leaves too, feather tress have actual feathers!

And Toady added over 200 of real life varieties just because. And I have to admit it feels amazing.

A suggestion for all of the diverse plants and seeds and such... Possibly creating a new workshop similar to the herbalist and fishpond, called a greenhouse, where you could grow plants not native to your biome, and having reactions that work with some of the tree seeds and such that are otherwise unusable, or possibly even having a way to convert the seeds we cannot use into plant able ones.

some of the underground trees could also create clouds of spores that put people to sleep or paralyze them.
