1) Of course, every player must have their character. I'll need a personal description, a description of their species, and a description of what skills/abilities they have. Be as detailed as you like. However, in the interest of creativity, there is an important caveat: no Earthlings. No humans, modified humans, uplifted Earth species, or mechanical beings created by any of the above.
Working on it.

2) Once we have some characters, we'll need a ship for them to go exploring in. Suggest whatever you think it should be/have, but bear a few things in mind. Storywise, the ship is purpose-built for this expedition, so whatever provisions/items being brought will probably be covered here. I'm leaning towards hard-sci-fi in what I'll allow, and the ship probably should not be super huge (try to stay under 1km). We'll all discuss the suggestions amongst each other.
Given the whole "nothing that's ever gone beyond the event horizon has been heard from again" thing, I'd imagine they drop things in every so often, and don't hold any real hope of success, so I suspect it's likely to be a fairly cheap ship. Small, limited facilities, etc.

Is she worth it, would you burn the city to save her? For her, I'd burn the world.

Depends on what's on the other side of the Dark Star.

Well with a crapy ship they could sneeze on our flying soup can and kill us and we'd be unable to do anything interesting.

Or perhaps the expedition is put together by some rich, suicidal/brave/insane/foohardy entity.

Having just the core characters isn't necessarily boring. They'd have more to do than if there were a bunch of NPCs around.

Says the person who wants to play as Han Solo. Remember that one time when the Millenium Falcon blew up a Star Destroyer?

But talking to the same 2 guys all the time is. You don't really get any variety dealing with the same small group all the time.
Can't play a charismatic pirate with nobody to be charismatic with.

I wouldn't trust Pan Froyo to blow up a Starbucks.

I suggest a compromise. Medium-size decently armed ship with the potential to make stuff out of anything usable we'd find on the other side of the Dark Star with a few NPC crewmembers/drones to fill the gaps with mayonnaise.

It depends on how many players we get. I think we have 5(?) right now.

I recommend running that through a spellcheck.

One quibble: bovine-like aliens, not bovines. Well, other quibbles besides, like formatting (skills/abilities needs to be its own section) and what he's doing on this expedition.

ONE MORE THING

I realize I overlooked FTL in this setting. It leans towards hard sci-fi, but as in many settings its a necessary convention. So let's say there's a method, but it requires accelerating to relativistic speeds first, and a bunch of additional energy once those speeds are reached. It takes the form of warping.
