Priority numbers question.
« on: January 06, 2015, 03:36:23 pm »

Does '7' mean "highest priority: Do it now!" or is '1' "Do it first!"? :P

I mean, I guess 7 is the most urgent, but I'm not certain ...

No, 1 is do it first.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Are the numbers global or just for that particular type? My guys won't touch a 4 but they'll scurry to do a 1.

They should be global for given dwarf. So a dwarf who is both miner and woodcutter will do, say, number 3 mining before number 4 cutting of trees and that before number 5 of channelling.

Dwarves cannot be both a miner and a woodcutter, so it's global.

Dwarves cannot be both a miner and a woodcutter, so it's global.
I have meant "dwarf of any profession with both mining and woodcutting labor enabled" with that.

They can't have both woodcutting and and mining enabled is what he's trying to say.

Is there a way to give orders without using the priority system? Is there a way to have the default # be 1 not 4 ? Do the priorities overwhelm other jobs ie the dwarf would prefer to do a 1 mining rather than brew beer? This system seems to add a lot of extra work for macro I could live without.

1. just make it all 4
2/3. they only matter releative to each other, so which one is the default is irrelevant

I've noticed that my dwarves tend to prefer a nearby workshop job over a moderately distant mining job, unless I set the mining to priority 1. And to prefer a a distant workshop job over a mining job that's right there, if the mining priority is 6-7.

As best I can figure out (haven't done any real !!SCIENCE!!, just observations while playing in the new versions), workshop jobs seem to be equivalent to a designation priority of 2-3. Construction jobs more like 5-6, and hauling jobs lower priority than something designated with a 7, but for non-designation jobs, the real priority seems like it might be getting modified by distance.

Maybe that is what I'm seeing, local workshop jobs taking precedence over distant mining or woodcarving. Possible even hauling being preferred. Shame you cant deprioritise hauling generally except by manipulating labors.
