k33n's Elves

I moved this out of the old modding subforum into this far more appropriate one.

This is my 16x16 all-job spritesheet for elves. It was created in anticipation for the 0.40.XX update potentially letting us have multiracial fortresses, and the fact that I've always wanted to make a tileset. All comments and criticism are welcome and wanted.

Feel free to use in other mods / tileset releases as long as you give credit!

Look at the heads of the bottom three fighter rows, not sure about the cloaks though.

I feel like those orphaned pixels decrease legibility and do not clearly denote a relationship with the forms. What are they supposed to be?

Well it's orange pixels around the head region, what else could it be but hair? r:

Well, before you said it was hair I assumed it was either a collar or a gilded edge of the helmet.

These are very well done K33N.

Excellent contrast and a nice crisp palette.

My only nitpick is that the figures do not line up evenly from sprite to sprite.  The misalignment is a minor aesthetic concern though.  Thanks for sharing!

Thank you.

Can you be more specific? I did tweak the horizontal positioning to accommodate some of the weapons, but I was sure I had them vertically justified.

It is only a very very minor nitpick, more of a personal OCD than anything.

The vertical alignment is spot on, lookin good.

The horizontal positioning that has been shifted in some figures is what gets to me.  I personally like it when all spirits have exactly the same horizontal and vertical alignment for the defining feature (usually the head).  Variation from profession categories is somewhat acceptable, though best if it too can be avoided or at least minimized.

Specific cases:  The smiths are shifted noticeably left in the 16px frame, to accommodate the anvils.  This is totally understandable, but it stands out regardless.  Not really a big deal though.  It stands out even more because the woodworkers directly above in the tilesheet are shifted one pixel to the right in comparison to the sprites above them.  The crafters and the (farmworkers ?) sprites below them are offeset, then line up, as there is horizontal positioning variation between the crafters.  And as you said, there is variation in the soldiers to account for the weapons.

This is very small stuff, I just wanted to offer a critique.  In practice (in game) I imagine these variations are unnoticeable.

I want to restate, I think these sprite are fantastic and I really appreciate you sharing them.

It should work with any 16x16.
