She whistled, and a pale riding pony which you could have sworn wasn't there earlier trotted across the road to the witch, neighing softly as its snout is petted. The witch silently nodded to Elias, signalling something as she climbed up the pony.

"Oh, yes. I'll have to go back to me hut now an' lock things up 'fore it gets too dark. I live outside the walls, see." the old man said, guiding his donkey away in the direction opposite from where the witch is heading.
