: "This is Sir Klesson, one of Crown-Princess Elodie's servants and advisers. He will be assisting Lord Heston while this place is built up to be a proper fief."

"Right, you need confidence in yourself before you can lead anyone."

~~~
"Villagers of Throneshadow!" Charles annouced as he exited the keep. "Today, I, Charles Heston, along with my retainers, slew the necromancer that plauged you this past year and a half. With him gone, I will take over as your Baron and do my best to protect you and this land."
Nanoha stands to attention, knowing her job at the moment was to look 'petty'.
Lilie was still in the castle, wondering aloud.
"This 'Heston' guy must be pretty important. He's getting all this help, even being aided by the princess's personal retainers."
"Does he have some sort of personal connection to her?"
Mordecai, who was staying in the shadows and out of sight of the peasantry, did not reply. He knew virtually nothing about Charles Heston other than that he had been selected to control the fief here. He was the Crown-Princess' librarian, not one of her advisers in such matters.
: "We were a little busy for formal introductions. Except for Tirena, but she's...well, Tirena. I am Mordecai Hoth, and no, I have no idea why Crown-Princess Elodie chose Lord Heston to rule here. I'm afraid I don't pay much attention to politics."
"Does he have some sort of personal connection to her?"
:"I think it less him and more his family. The Heston family is a rather old family to Molvonian and had a long time to gather influence. Charles himself is the third child so he unimportant. If not for the war, I don't think he would be much beyond a footnote. Still, it up for him to make something of it."
Aware that her raggedy presence wouldn't do much in the way of majesty for Charles, Kristii instead watched from a corner, grinning at Heston's speech. Maybe, if she had the opportunity, she got to thinking, she might even be able to help out with the inspiring-ness...
Outside of the keep there were already villagers gathered in curiosity as to whether they would continue to be neighbors to the undead and their bully of a master when Charles exited and gave his speech. They were a ragged lot, worn by starvation and regularly extorted from whomever wandered into the town with weapons, and many of the able-bodied men had been taken away to fight in the war.
"Villagers of Throneshadow!" Charles annouced as he exited the keep. "Today, I, Charles Heston, along with my retainers, slew the necromancer that plauged you this past year and a half. With him gone, I will take over as your Baron and do my best to protect you and this land."
The response among the dozen or so villagers in the crowd outside is a hodgepodge of anger, cheering, and confusion. Some of it was negative...
A plain girl nearing adulthood shouted a question "What'd you do with Bob? He's a mule's arse but he didn't do no harm to nobody!"
An elderly gentleman cries out "About damn time! Why is Molvonia's army out there and fighting some stupid foreigners instead of protecting us!"
But others were more thrilled by this change...
A gentleman with a lamed leg nearly toppled over as he threw his arms in the air. "Praise the King! That weasel has been stealing our crops with his corpse-soldiers for months!" Apparently news of succession didn't travel well out here, or their minds remained in the past.
A woman with child screamed "Damn right! Death to Bob! Death to the enemies of the Kingdom! Glory to Molvonia!"
And a young girl with a chipped tooth and red-brown pigtails stood there clapping at the spectacle of seeing what her parents' had called a "Noble", even if she didn't understand a thing that was happening.
"I am Tirena Nerarand. Pleased to meet you."
"Certainly convenient you remember your name. A shame, because then I could have named you! Something nice, like Woofles. Or Leechles, as the case may be."
