I thought of a question:
Do adventurers count as relatives of your original seven? Seeing as (unforunately) we can never actually play amy of our real clan members, what are adventurers?  Hired help? Slaves? Adoptees?

Adventurers have no history - they are the souls of heroes past reincarnated into new physical shells.  When an adventurer dies, its soul returns to the Forii who first sent it out, so that it may be sent back to the World once more at a later time.

(I got the idea from an old SEGA game called "Altered Beast".  Adventure mode often reminds me of playing this game back in the day.)

I'm thinking that some clan members may become companions of adventurers who are their "bodygaurds" and "weapons trainers".  If the adventurer can take the clan member out for some training, or can donate armor and weapons to keep them safe, all the better!  If an adventurer survives long enough and gains enough fame, they may be accepted as a hearthperson into one of the clans, which would allow them to actually be a clan-member themselves.

Saint, that is one pretty little artifact. I've been running my latest fort like a temple too, with each god having a sect dedicated to them e.g. Miners would be Disciple of (god of mining) etc. Plus, based on skill they've got custom ranks like initiate, adept, acolyte etc.

Now to think of a Clan Name....

Clan Deepsons! Also, seeing as how it's free, can I take turn 4 instead of 6?

I would very much appreciate it if we kept the turn list low.  Like, only 4 people.  Maaaaaaaaybe 5.

Ok, we can do that, but I'll add that if a clan has been depopulated of all members, the next person on the waiting list will get their chance to fill that slot with a new Clan instead. (Two year starter, ect...)

Gonna have to agree with saint. Otherwise it could get to the point where we don't get repeat turns. Also, when you retire in adventure mode, do your companions become a part of the fort? Because that would be useful to spread the clan to other fortresses.

Adventurers aren't clan members until they've been accepted as a hearthperson by a clan.  That has the added bonus of showing up with the same civ tag in fortress mode, so the adventurer isn't marked as "hostile"

How do you become a hearthperson? Also, I mean companions.

I love how small this map is, and how the history is only 20 years.  Keeps the lag nice and low.

Ok, I've come up with some fluff for clan Deepsons.

A strange and reclusive people, the Deepsons prefer to shut themselves away in dark and gloomy caverns, carving grand halls, shrines and mausoleums in the safety of the deep. And, like the dark they hide in, they use treachery and cunning to get what they need. Devious in warfare and diplomacy alike, be careful in your dealings. The Deep holds many dangers for Uplanders.

"Metal Hides, Magmatic Hearts."
The Deepsons Value Strength, Intelligence and Craftsdwarfship.

Just thought of something. Perhaps we could have people who are watching (yes, you, the reader! {How's that for breaking the fourth wall?}) ask to be Dorfed as an inhabitant in a fort and that players dynasty is a minor house, with the five great houses (Saintly, Stonecleaver, Goodbrews, Deepsons, (Fifth Clan goes here) as the overseers. Then the minor houses could have sway over smaller things like their clan's specialties, military squads and stuff. Although that may become really hectic to keep up with.

I like the idea of "Minor houses" - those could be ready to fill any gaps left by the fall of one of the "Big Five" and thusly wouldn't necessarily be stating entirely from scratch.

I'll finish off the Saintly family tree tomorrow. Its 9:50 Friday night here, but working from 9 am til midday tomorrow. Probs finish it after lunch. I'm sorta going for a classic greek temple look columns, vines, stuff like that as a background and the portraits just in circles at the front.

Yeah, the minor houses would have a specialised industry (or multiple based on their size) with their members having a related set of labors. The minor house leaders could select a few people to be added to their house at the end of each turn maybe? Although this could get mighty tricky later on.

Also, when/if a major house is killed, then yeah, maybe the most influential house e.g. amount of nobles/managers they have, overall population, etc. takes control of that fort. Ooh! And if a child is orphaned, then they can be adopted by one of the houses!

Anyhow, this could be so good and so complex, but it may get out of hand if we're not careful. Anyways, this looks to have a bright future if it takes off. I've never been in a succession game before, so i'm probably not the best judge. However, (motivational speech inbound) we may have something here. Bob, having read your other stuff, you seem like a bit of a forum guru, and Saint, well, come on. The Littlest Cheesemaker. I reckon this will be grand. And with that i bid you goodnight. Or day depending on your timezone.
