My fort has 21 dorfs (20 legendary soldiers and a manager). It has been 23 years and no dorfs ever got married. So I opened Therapist and did some investigation...

Out of 21 dorfs, only 7 are male, including 2 bis and 5 heteros. According to Therapist, all female dorfs are hetero.

There are currently 4 pairs of lovers:

1)
Zaneg Crescenttrumpet (female hetero)
Kivish Lancedinched (male bi)

2)
Deduk Tenderarrow (female hetero)
Kumil Craftstemple (female hetero)

3)
Iden Dyefence (female hetero)
Ducim Fastendike (male hetero)

4)
Libash Raysrock (female hetero)
Zefon Martyrpaint (male hetero)

As you see, #3 and #4 are normal, #1 is not completely out of ordinary, but #3 is really strange.

So maybe it is a Therapist bug?

It's possible they're interested in females but do not wish to marry them. I don't know how therapist works on that front, though.

Expanding on the above, orientation is not as simple as male and female used to be.

In previous versions, males and females of any species that could breed merely needed to be on the same map in order for reproduction to occur. In the current version, the various orientations each also have a level of relationship strength to them which determines whether a particular relationship will result in marriage and children or just a relationship for fun.

Yeah, you probably have bicurious dwarves. IIRC, dfhack's Gaydar can let you find out.

From gaydar-ing everything with a pulse, I've found that the majority of dwarves are either straight or bi-curious.  That brings up the question: what, if anything, influences bisexual dwarves to form relationships with one gender over the other?

I got my first marriage after 32 fortress years, while among other things experimenting to get them married. No marriage at all is more likely due to lack of socialising than due to the fancy new sexuality system.

The script says: Deduk will marry males and likes females.
So the baroness will never get married because she likes females but will only marry males.
If I understand correctly?

Testing her lover Kumil returns the same result.


The other pairs:

1)
Zaneg (f) will marry males and likes females.
Kivish (m) will marry males and will marry females.

Well this one is odd. Zaneg likes females, yet she's in love with a he.

3)
Iden (f) will marry males.
Ducim (m) likes females.

So they will not get married because Mr D doesn't  want to.

4)
Libash (f) will marry males.
Zefon (m) likes males and will marry females.

Well Mr Z is actually a gay but will only marry females. I guess in real life there are many people like him.
It is really sad, none of them will have a normal relationship after all.

We'll see. Now with the goblilns gone there won't be many activities in the furture, everyone will have enough time to throw parties.

I am indeed sad about the lack of general marriage and socialization in the new version.  The whole social system is out of whack currently, not just how straight/gay dwarves interact.

  I had a dwarf who actually impregnated two different females, evidenced by births separated by less than a week apart.

You can add orientation tags the raws for dwarves to make them 100% heterosexual.

Hold up.  do that for us?  Mod the dwarves to have 100% rigid homosexual preferences, and tell us how they fare in worldgen.  I'm curious to know.
