Hyboria RTD

"Know, O Prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars - Nemedia, Ophir, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Zamora with its dark-haired women and towers of spider-haunted mystery, Zingara with its chivalry, Koth that bordered the pastoral lands of Shem, Stygia with its shadow-guarded tombs, Hyrkania whose riders wore steel and silk and gold.  But the proudest kingdom of the world was Aquilonia, reigning supreme in the dreaming west.
Hither came Conan the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the earth under his sandled feet."
- The Nemedian Chronicles

Reserved. (Don't mean to be picky but Provence is a region in France, province is a general term for a division of land.)

TURN 1: WELCOME TO TARANTIA

It is morning, and the mist of Aquilonia is light. This spring has been a wet one, promising a good harvest and strong soldiers. An eagle is seen flying on the right side of the sun's gaze, a good omen to the traveller. In the distance one could see the crown Jewel of the West, Tarantia, capital of beautiful Aquilonia.

Hither we meet Drest and Grun, two companions on horseback trotting at a leisuring pace, viewing the beauties of the land. And whilst it was distinguishable that these two were companions, and were hardened on the road, they were very different indeed.

Here is Drest, a built Pict from the further west. He handles himself a battle axe which has been rusted with blood of some wolves. He wears their hides upon his shoulders and breast, and as gauntlets and leggings. He has a gruff demeanor, and looks toward the city with destination in mind.

Yet here also is Grun, a small Zingaran who carries a bow and a quiver filled with arrows. He wears a mustache that is very popular from his homeland, and dons a leather armor built to his quick stature. Sweat upon his ebony brow, excitement fills his body as he guises at the city with adventure at heart.

"By Ishtar, I'm going to see Tarantia! I'm ready for some fun!" Grun yells as he begins to gallop his horse. Drest follows suite, staying silent for now. It's is almost midday, and our travelers reach the city. The find a tavern, an armory, a shrine to Dagon, and a flea-market.

What do you do?

The prospect of new arms and armor was appealing, but far more imminently the tavern beckoned to Drest. Perhaps with a mug or two of ale he would even be able to tolerate conversation with his companion.

Go to the tavern and order a drink for myself, and Grun if he follows.

Science is always important. But it needs more flaming cats. Can't we build bridge-based catapults and fling flaming cats at the dust and goo?

It's time for the ATHATH Death Counter to increase once more in celebration for the end of the world.

Ah yes, taverns. Grun's best memories were made in taverns. There was always something to do. He wonders what Aquilonian taverns are like.

Follow Drest to the tavern. have a drink!

Turn 2: The King's Dance

It is quite warm within the tavern, yet very slow business, as most honest people work until the evening. Several people are seen sitting at tables laughing, drinking, eating, and flirting with local whores. Most of the patrons appear to be travelers, like Grun and Drest, yet there are several that seem to be locals. Many of the more unpleasant ones wear a turquoise cape around their necks, emblazoned with a green boar on it.

Drest gets to the bar and orders two mugs of ale for himself and his companion, which costs 2 pieces of gold. "Better be some damn good ale, costing a gold piece per drink." Drest grumbles with annoyance. Grun enjoys the ale with his companion, which tastes exceptional! A little while passes as the two adventurers sit at a table, when suddenly one of the caped men pulls out a knife on the barkeep! There are five bandits here, and most of the travelers look in awe. What do you do?

Look over the bandits.

How many appear to be armed?
Any armor?

Drest wanted to know what he was getting into, so he could decide whether an ax was necessary or if this could be settled the way most barfights ought to be; with fists.
