Dwarf Fortress 0.21.104.19b Released
« on: August 27, 2006, 05:08:00 am »

Download

Changes

Note that there's a musicless version available on the download page.

Fixed several crash bugs and cleaned up some affected saves.  I also found out why named creatures were disappearing sometimes and fixed that, though saves in which the problem is currently active will still see some of it.

Chasming refuse is in, though there will probably be some irregularities of which you'll have the pleasure of informing me.

There were some other changes that might help with sheriff/injury tantrums.

Some of the tree designation clearance problems should be gone.

Trade agreements should work properly.

The thieves that enter the fortress are somewhat easier to detect now.

Depending on how you've bound your keys, you should have the odd hold-down behavior only when using a cursor or scrolling now.

edit: 104.19a was defective!  Get 104.19b if you haven't already!

You're a android from the future, built from pure awesome, aren't you? That's the only explanation.

You chasm specific objects from Stocks, which means you must love your bookkeeper.  General chasming can be accomplished from the standing
  • rders / [r]efuse screen.  There are a few options there.  What options should be availabe there and which should be up to pure Stocks designation is debatable.

Also, human caravans with their rotting meat and empty cages are for losers, but they won't even show up in the one I just posted.  Hopefully 104.19 ->b<-, which is now up, fixes this.  It might also sort out some of the lingering "siege" problems people were having, although there's no guarantee of that.  It's 7am...  I should probably sleep instead of trying more releases tonight.

Is there any way to chasm stone without the book keeper? Instead of making another stone stockpile, I'd like the option of just ordering the dwarves to chunk the freshly-mined plain rocks into the abyss.

It used to be under the option of chasm nonmetal, but now I don't think I can find it. I think it would be a general enough command that it shouldn't require a book keeper, though I could see if you didn't want it in there, to keep us trying to fight our stockpiles.

Wasn't sure if I should put this under bugs or here. I suppose here works as well as anywhere.

Telling dwarves to chasm 'other' has them going outside to the swamp to pick up firefly corpses to throw in the chasm, even if I've told them to ignore outside refuse. This is annoying because I'm quite happy to let fireflies rot outside, but would rather my dwarves chuck dead rats and bats into the chasm (since it's presumably closer then my refuse pile) - the current behavior makes it so that I can't do this.

does that mean cheating will get weird caravans?

a dwarf merchant brought me (102a) 1 barrel of dwarven beer (which i skipped... 20 isn't really enough, is it) 1 barrel of sugar and 1 caged dog?!

Sorry if there's a stupid question, but how can I download this update without having two versions of DF on my computer? Should I just delete my old one first?

It doesn't do any install-type stuff with windows.  Just unzip it into a new folder and follow the save backup instructions in release_notes.txt if you want to use the save games from your other folder.

copy the save directory if you want to continue your existing fortress.  I usually unzip the new releases into a uniquely named subdirectory off a "df" directory, unlikely though it is I'll ever want to go back to a previous version.
