Subnautica..
« on: March 08, 2015, 01:53:14 pm »

im surprised no one has posted about this game.

http://unknownworlds.com/subnautica/

basically its a terraforming survival game set in an ocean world. yeah, kinda makes me remember Planet Explorers.

according to what i gathered the game is set to have different biomes up to a depth of 2000 meters.

its also in early access on Steam or something like that.

by the graphics its quite good. and seems the next patch they're gonna add the possibility of underwater bases.

I remember voting this on greenlight or something. A bit pricey for an EA but yea it does look appealing. Did someone test it?

Wait a minute. Did you just say EA?

WITCH! BUUURN IT! BURN THE WITCH!

... but in all seriousness this game is on my no-buy list now. Unless it's sports, I refuse to buy a thing from EA.

I think they meant early access.

yeah the game is in no way related to Electronic Arts, EA was just an abreviation of Early Acces

(better to give it another abreviation. like eAccess or something like dat).

I long for a day when we'll respond to early access the way we respond to EA.  Yet another early access survival game, this one has a better pedigree but when the bathwater is this bad I consider the baby a lost cause.

You don't like early access survival games? What about early access multiplayer zombie survival open world games?

This is the part in the movie when everyone stops talking in the bar, turns around, and stares menacingly at you while several men go for their sidearms or other funs weapons.

No, no, it's when they load you onto the hover skiff before the space wizard and charming rogue and then throw you into the slavering earlacc pit.

The game has alot of potentials from watching SplatterCat videos on YouTube. The vehicles you can build are awesome, including a submarine that can carry a baby submarine. But I'd wait for more content to be put in. They haven't made content for depths beyond 100 meters (feet?).

Yeah there's not many devs I would trust to deliver on early access with so little content. I mean, I dig the concept but at the moment it looks so similar to its ilk churned out under the same formula (see: The Forest, Stranded Deep).

I really like the way it looks, but there's a big no-sell for me: No procedurally generated worlds. It's identical every time.

That's the thing, though, it's not a big RPG with enough content for many playthroughs and a plethora of mods which drastically alter the experience. I mean, I might get it anyways, since it looks like it'll be good for a few hours of gut-wrenching primal terror (seriously though fuck open water), but there's basically no replay value unless you wait months or years between playthroughs.
