How to outfit an army of child soldiers
« on: March 13, 2015, 10:08:11 am »

I don't know if this is a well-known method, but here's what happened to me: I rescued some kids from a goblin fort, and told them all to wait in a keep in a nearby city. Then I went traveling for a couple of days, and when I got back the kids all had the profession "Recruit", and their character is now gray instead of red.

This means they will now accept weapons and armor through the Exchange Items dialog! They seem to be able to wield any weapon, I gave one of them a maul and he happily used it to brain a goblin. They are able to gain weapon skills as well, a couple of them are now Wrestlers and one is a Pikeman.

I don't know if the game still considers them kids or adults. I'll try to give one of the human ones some Large armor and see if he puts it on. If he's a child then I guess he shouldn't be able to.

Yup, That Wolf noticed the, if you will, 'wolf pack' method some time back.

I think the game has actually a problem regarding the child and adult status :

No idea if it's a problem new to the 40.x serie or if it is a longer standing one as i never did the experimentation in pre 40.x

I can confirm though that they will wear armor normally.

Humans will not wear dwarf-sized and vice versa.

Dwarves, however, can wear Large high boots!

Yeah, I tried just now and they won't wear them, are you sure they aren't just sticking them in their backpack/pouch/holding them?

Will shields work? You can get pretty far with only high shield and one or two of them.

If dwarves are built like dwarves irl, they should be able to wear human sized gauntlets and helms.

Just treat the chilren recruits as the adult version. They will wear the same armor as the adult of the race, yes a four year old will use a greatsword and iron armor and kick some goblin arse.
They dont flee from battle, they must get a high discipline from the goblin kidnapping and 'training'. Nothing like being chucked in a smelly sack and waking up in a dark stone box with a few elf kids only to be 'liberated' by a warrior to make you realise the truth in life and its fleeting nature.
If I was released I would only want to wage war on whomever wrongs me.

They don't flee, but a few ov them had PTSD syndroms and tended to lie down in fear whenever an enemy approached. A few dozen goblin corpses later they seem to be all right.

I would like to hear more of your stories.
Its nice to hear that there are others that use the 'wolf pack' method (thanks max)
How many do you usualy use? What weapons do you prefer to give them all? I like swords and a few lashers.
Did your children start with metal masks?
