Scenery & Landscapes
« on: March 31, 2015, 09:46:47 am »

How about our dwarves getting positive thoughts while being outside (if they like being outside, that is) and seeing a particularly eye-catching landscape?

I suggest the following to be true for every dwarf D:
Every N turns (N might be a huge random number) the D will trigger a landscape-evaluating algorithm (if he's outside) and receive a positive thought if the result was positive. The said algorithm would consider the elevations, vegetation, weather effects and other things visible to the D right now and answer the question - whether the D liked what he saw or not. D's attitude towards nature will be included in the formula as well.

Please note that only the visual parts of all the evaluated effects will matter - there are already thoughts for weather. A dwarf might like the view of a rain-curtain and clouds hiding the sun, but getting drenched will still produce a negative thought on its own account.

Maybe this would make more sense in the caverns. Or at least they should produce the same kind of thoughts.

Sure, caverns sound good. Like anything else - it's just my thought that dwarves might want to appreciate nature as well as dwarf-made things.
