Megabeasts will not attack the player until they have accumulated a minimum wealth of 100,000☼ or a minimum population of 80 dwarves.
Df wiki on megabeasts. Pretty sure you probably have more than 100,000 in loot, maybe you need to sell it first?
Don't you need to have a liaison report your wealth to the mountainhome before it counts?

That could be a problem with civilisations in this kind of world.

It's a dwarf.  Their natural habitat is "trapped on the wrong side of a wall".

Flinging children halfway across the map to land in magma is good, wholesome fun, but extramarital reproduction?  Why, that's just unseemly!

Now that's just sad. All the monsters living happily together for years and then you show up and Uncle Dragon goes berserk and melts little Dagger's face off.

And now, shifting the focus to one of my other forts: this one was a roughly 1570 megabeast structure: a fair bit less then the peaking building, but still no slouch. It's interesting traits include the fact that it is partially submerged (the lowest laybrinth floor is filled up to 4/7 with water), as well as maintaining a stable population of about 160 or so monsters. What's more, I've managed to survive undeteced long enough for the gestation period to occur:

Edit: A bronze colossus managed to murder the poor creature and its mother shortly after it was born. Such is life, I suppose.

Is that rising from the floor of a canyon? Because now I'm imagining one of the spires in Bryce Canyon honeycombed and filed with monsters, which is awesome.

Indeed it is, though I had to render a cross section of the canyon in order to get the whole structure. I've decided to start constructing an observation/living tower some fair distance from the building. A couple close calls with the Rocs as well as a run-in with a Cyclops that could have very well ended very badly have slowed down progress, but it continues on steadily as the population stays at 13 members.

Humerously, exactly four outside members of my civilization remain alive: the queen, her assistant, and a liason and a diplomat. All nobles, all of them desperate for what shall clearly be their new capital city to be completed before the monsters decide to attack once again.

Just a quick mention; I've been experimenting some more with kilo-megabeast worlds and found out that high monster density and evil biomes are an especially FUN combination:

Now that was fun. The shortest-lived fortress I've ever had.

At least it isn't a pack of zombie dragons. They are immune to everything except high-quality weaponry and cave-ins, and due to their fire breath attack, you won't even be able to use the first method.

Propman, I challenge you to construct a fortress within one of the Eldritch castles. Use minimal excavation.

"At least it isn't a pack of zombie dragons."

"Well, it's only 3000 or so rocs this time, we'll make do."

"It's kinda pretty, once you get past the eldritch horror and apocalyptic melee, don't you think?"

At least you can kill rocs with lava. Dragons will consider it a nice bath.

Propman, I challenge you to construct a fortress within one of the Eldritch castles. Use minimal excavation.

That is something I have attempted a couple of times, but the monsters left behind have always overwhelmed my forces. Nevertheless, I shall consider that challange for the future. But as for now:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

New record high! Actually closer to 3625, but some of the monsers just couldn't stand to wait for the map to finish loading before they dug their claws into their fellow fiends!

Was the stuff in the lair of all those creatures so valuable that it instantaneously caused new monsters to enter the map?

Think part of the trick is having super high megabeast counts without enough unique sites to place them all so it puts them in one location but then the game seems to decide that having a unique structure is ok as long as it is at the same site.

DAMN AND HELLFIRE AND FARTKNUCKLES!

I got a world generated with capped beasts, I located a spot that has a ton of sites, everytime I get close enough that the mini-map would show up while traveling it crashes, anyone got a save with one of those castles on it I can see if I can clamber around in as an adventurer to make sure it isn't just the spot I'm checking being crap?
