Voice recognition?
« on: April 13, 2015, 04:47:59 am »

I see a increasing amount of games doing it, and I wonder if it's feasible to mod in without a massive budget?

What you'd want to do is get some form of preexisting (and probably proprietary) speech-recognition software and then program that to, say, substitute the spoken "build floor" for the key sequence b -> shift+c -> f, while you're playing Dwarf Fortress. This could be easy or hard depending on how in-depth you wanna get with it and how available and well-documented the recognition software is.

Could you plug this stuff in with dfhack? There do seem to be some free options.

Just out of curiosity, what would you like to do with DFHack that you can't do through the player interface, like pressing (i.e. having the voice software "press" for you) "b->shift+c->f" ?

That's a start. Could be preferable for designations as well, and TBH down the line I'd like to speak my conversations and orders. Maybe "zoom out" and "enhance"?

Why not just use Dragon?

Tazti seems like the go-to for games, but both are paywalled.

I used to use Dragon some, but if you know what you are doing the keyboard is simply faster. MUCH faster.
