Corin's Mystery Massacre Records

I've re-downloaded Corin's Mystery Massacre, and one thing I'm having trouble with is remembering how to progress. Sometimes I get a megaboss relatively quickly, and other times it takes forever for the big guy to arrive. Any thoughts?

Also, any favorite factions?

Please don't. 67% of this game's enjoyment is figuring out what the hell is going on.
