I'm not actually planning on adding giant versions of creatures, save a few, though I might add them as an addon. If so, they will definitely be terrors - unnaturally large beasts, and so dangerous fighters. I'm also going to add extinct creatures in an addon.

So, there is the base mod, then the non-actually-real addon, the giant addon (possibly) and the extinct addon.

I'm developing a new mod - Urist's Ark, adding creatures, creatures, creatures (and perhaps stone, clothes and other stuff). I would like some suggestions of what animals YOU would like to see in Dwarf Fortress.
Feel free to take some of my animal additions from OldGenesis mod.

I have Forest Elephant, Dama Gazelle, spaniel, bulldog, mastiff, swamp cat, Dodo bird, marsh owl (fictional amalgam of N owl species), Fisher marten, Zebra, Eland the cowlike antelope,
boa, python, softshell turtle (plus its large version), spearnosed bat,
haddock (super tasty fish, triple price), and probably some more that I added before master Toady added 200+ new animals.

Thanks, I'll probably use them as a base.

Since we're talking real animals, here's my gathered animal movement speeds. I collected the info when updating OldGenesis.
Toady uses human burst speed (not long-term speed) so I have mostly burst speeds. Very cheetah.

AceVs, first off you really like animals don't you :P Second (this may be wrong but I think it should work) you can add a prehensile tail by just adding a tail body part with the [GRASP] tag.

Well, yes, but it's mostly that zoology relatively easy to mod.  I'd go equally nutz about martial arts, but DF doesn't have that.

Well, yes, but it's mostly that zoology relatively easy to mod.  I'd go equally nutz about martial arts, but DF doesn't have that.

Can't you add custom flavor text to creature attacks? You could just give a creature a bunch of different strikes with different text.
