Yeah, I always have trouble figuring out where to put my eyes on the solid background ones, why I used the spacefox dorfs with bisasam for the background.

I'm curious to see what the gemset text vs map tilesets work out like.

Just my 2 cents:
Put a helmet and/or a set of armor on war animal's sprite,
and a leather cap/fedora on hunting animal's sprite.
i.e. this http://imgur.com/om74YiH and this http://imgur.com/Xcp5YJc

And the black background is so clear and smooth. Nice work folk :)

Hey, everyone! I'm in need of a bit of help.

Before drawing the item overrides, I decided I'd compile a list of everything that needs to be done and the TWBT tiles/subtypes that go with them. Here's everything I've got so far:

This list was initially much bigger, but with the help of Meph and mifki, I was able to narrow it down a bit. Despite this, I've still got some blanks I still need to fill...It's been a while since I played DF, and I can't remember what tiles represent some things like CATAPULTPARTS or CHEESE. So can someone help me out and fill in the blanks? For reference, here is the character table of DF. If something in-game were represented by an "A", then it would be character (65).

Just my 2 cents:
Put a helmet and/or a set of armor on war animal's sprite,
and a leather cap/fedora on hunting animal's sprite.

Thanks! This is a really nice suggestion, but I'm afraid it would be too herculean of a task to draw. For consistency's sake, I've included TRAINED_WAR and TRAINED_HUNTER versions for all the creatures, so to do this I'd have to add armor to hundreds upon hundreds of sprites.

EDIT:

I'll be updating this list as tiles are found.

Cheese is %, or 25

Catapult parts are multiple things, apparently, though the cup is 8

OMG, man.  Stop what you're doing right now and play the game. Otherwise, you'll create this amazing tileset and then dance off into the caverns with the rest of those legendary masterworkers before you.

Don't worry, man. I've done lots of projects for games like NetHack, Don't Starve, Earthbound Zero, etc and I still keep up with them. After the project's finished, I'm not gonna disappear off the forums like Spacefox. I'll still be updating, taking feedback and keeping up with the forums. ;)

With that being said, I've still got some items I need to identify and I'm not ready yet for in-game testing. For the record, this is what I need:

BALLISTAARROWHEAD
BALLISTAPARTS
CATAPULTPARTS (The item, not the building Putnam)
DRINK
FOOD_STORAGE (Might not exist)
GOBLET
ORTHOPEDIC_CAST
ROUGH (Might not exist)
BOWL
MORTAR
PESTLE
CARVING KNIFE
BONING KNIFE
SLICING KNIFE
MEAT CLEAVER
CARVING FORK
POUCH
TRAPPARTS

FOOD_STORAGE is a tool use, not an item, and the same is true for BOWL, MORTAR, PESTLE, CARVING KNIFE, BONING KNIFE, SLICING KNIFE, MEAT CLEAVER, CARVING FORK and POUCH. The only FOOD_STORAGE item in vanilla are pots. TRAPPARTS are mechanisms. ROUGH is rough gems, which definitely do exist; they are *.

Thanks, Putnam! Looks like I've got just about everything as far as items are concerned. I'm not sure about 3 things, though...

  • TWBT takes seperate overrides for items and buildings, so I'm not sure what BALLISTAARROWHEAD, BALLISTAPARTS and CATAPULTPARTS are. Are they haulable components like ☼ or are they parts of the engines like ► ◄ ▲ ▼?
  • An ORTHOPEDIC_CAST uses the same symbol as a crutch, right?
  • On that page you linked me, I noticed PLANT_GROWTH has subtypes. Are those LEAVES, FLOWERS, POD, HEART, FRUIT, BUDS, NUT, POLLEN_CATKINS, SEED_CATKINS, SEED, SEED_CONE, POLLEN_CONE, FEATHERS, EGGS and SPATHES; in that order?

I'm confused. Many of these objects, like weaponracks, armorstands, mechanisms, etc, already have a unique tile in a tileset. They do not require Twbt overrides to look unique. If you are making a tileset anyway, it's redundant to make these twice.

I would stay clear from the ballista ammo. It's a multi-tile object and when fired has a direction. I'm not sure if Twbt can handle that.

PS: I don't play the game either. ^^

1. If the BALLISTAARROWHEAD, BALLISTAPARTS and CATAPULTPARTS are hauleable items or buildings depends on the I: or B: in your override file. The ID is the same for both, but you can assign different sprites to the B: (building) and the hauleable I: (item) if you want.

2. A cast has no tile as far as I can say. They are created ON a creature using plaster powder and destroyed when taken off. I think no graphics for it exist, similar to sutures. They use a thread (which has graphics) and apply it to the creatures. It's then a thread/suture ON a creature and has no more graphics of its own.

3. Yes. Plants are crazy now.

PLANT_GROWTH's subtype is as arbitrary as any other subtype in the game.

I'm confused. Many of these objects, like weaponracks, armorstands, mechanisms, etc, already have a unique tile in a tileset. They do not require Twbt overrides to look unique. If you are making a tileset anyway, it's redundant to make these twice.

D'awww, that's a bit of a defeatist attitude! I have a hunch that texturing the siege engines won't be that difficult. I'm gonna be trying four separate overrides for each possible direction like so:

Code: [Select]
[OVERRIDE:16:I:BALLISTAARROWHEAD:BALLISTAARROWHEAD::items:0] #East
[OVERRIDE:17:I:BALLISTAARROWHEAD:BALLISTAARROWHEAD::items:1] #West
[OVERRIDE:30:I:BALLISTAARROWHEAD:BALLISTAARROWHEAD::items:2] #North
[OVERRIDE:31:I:BALLISTAARROWHEAD:BALLISTAARROWHEAD::items:3] #South

Also, I'm going to be explicitly defining everything through TWBT while the tileset remains purely text. If I tried editing the tileset to change weaponracks, it would also change things like badlands on the map and check marks. I'm sure people are used to seeing stuff like that (along with solid backgrounds) but I absolutely hate it. I tried it a long time ago with DawnFortress and was not happy with the results.

Yesss... let the perfect blend of ASCII-based clarity and per-item sprites be joined...  World maps are going to look awesome!

Incidentally:  is anyone interested in porting Phoebus et al to ASCII-compatible raws via TwbT?  Mod compatibility FTW!

But Twbt uses several tilesets anyway. You can make one for all text and one for the graphics. That's one of the major features of Twbt.

For example the Masterwork GUI allows people to pick those tilesets indepenendly. You can play with ASCII, but have text shown in Phoebus letter... or you play Obsidian Soul with Ironhand letters.

Dragon,

The wiki has a list of each tile and its uses in-game. http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Tilesets#What_tiles_are_used_for_what

Not sure it's 100% up-to-date, but it's what I use when assigning graphics to new items, workshops, etc.
