As for the PPC, we're looking at it, but it'll take a bit of time to get more information.  I can't do anything by myself on this one, so if there's further public inactivity, it might seem like I've moved on as I work on issues I can work on alone, but getting it to work on Power PC is still my number one priority.

Have the raws been altered since version a? I've added [Trainable] tags to whole bunch of critters, and it's a pain to adjust that for every new version.

I think I might have put [CAN_LEARN] on gnomes and decreased giant cave spider cluster sizes.  Other than that, new tags are in file_changes.txt.

Well Toady, is there anything us PPC users can do to help the process along?

Nope.  I'm just sending exes with modifications to help detect the problem over, and getting reports back.  It'll take a bit.

Actually, the last PPC test for Kobold Quest was flawed.  As eli pointed out, the links said 1.06 but linked to 1.05.

Kobold Quest

If you grab that now, making sure it's 1.06, does it fail?  eli said the pictures didn't load, probably because of some endian issue, so if that's worked out, it might be related to the DF crash, since DF is also crashing at a load point related to the endian code.

Okay, I tried out the 1.06 for PPC, running 10.4.11.

I had music, but in both fullscreen and windowed mode I had no picture - just a black screen.

Also: I don't know if this is actually a game feature, but whenver I pressed the space bar, the game quit.

We've sorted that part out now, but it seems to be dying at a different spot in DF that's only vaguely related.  More tomorrow (bed time now).

We've got it working on PPC, but the saves aren't compatible between Intel and PPC yet, despite the endian conversion.  I'm going through the broken save looking for mistakes with my code now.

How exactly is this new Age Of ____ transition going to work? Wouldn't every fort game by the player begin an Age of Dwarves? What are the determinants of an age transition?

It uses total living world population, once the megabeast/power number is brought down.  If you are in a pocket world, since dwarves are generated from thin air, if they survive you'll eventually come out on top, but in a larger world it would take quite a bit of dwarfing, and you'd have to kill many megabeasts to get out of myth/legends first.

I can see it now. Age of Ironblood.  That fortress would of probably pulled off the requirements many times over by now.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
