Well, besides getting frustrated because I thought Inform was being difficult and then realizing that I just made a typo, the game is underway again. I plan to have a release version out by the middle of next month, but it'll only be Chapter 1.

Fun fact, apparently there are already two movies with the name Red Dust. Surprisingly, neither are about Mars.

PTW. This looks really cool. Nothing fancy, just pure player-driven story with no gimmicks.

I might add some illustration if anyone wants to give it (I'm terrible at arting) but otherwise, yea nothing fancy really going on here.

As for an update: I'm currently working on the first major turning point in the game. The puzzles are simple, so far, but I've always made sure that there are several ways to solve them that may or may not be obvious or reversible.

So, another thing I feel silly about. I thought in order to bypass the default responses for basic actions, (i.e. "Taken." "You open the door.") I had to put:
Code: [Select]
Instead of opening something (called a thing):
Say "[The thing] is now open. Good job.";
Now the thing is open.
Turns out that After rules bypass the default responses. It says this fairly early in the documentation. So the more simplified version would be:
Code: [Select]
After opening something (called a thing), say "[The thing] is now open. Good job."

I face a dilemma. I want to include a real actual adventure game style puzzle, but I have no idea how to implement it. I might remove it entirely for the first release, and add it in later when I know a bit more about the system, but I don't want to forget until Chapter 3 and rush to get it done. I might also just put in a crapton of code for it and simplify later. Not sure which right now.

Other than that, though, I'm pretty much done. I just have to get that done, figure out the final scene of Chapter 1, and then I can give it to playtesters.

I can give it to playtesters.

Could I be one of them? I should have time, now.

Yes, you may! I set up a list in the second post. If I missed anybody, let me know.

The first playtest build is almost done. For anyone who is playtesting, go download and install Frotz to play with. Unless you have a mac, in which case go get something else, I dunno. I'll be PMing the file to anyone who is on the playtest list later tomorrow.

I'm going to figure out how to set up a standalone version later, but for now, we gotta use a different interpreter.

I hate text games. They show my inadequacy to figure out likely simple puzzles... grr!

Spoiler: Relevant (click to show/hide)

Anyway, PTW since I'm interested in sci-fi stuff and the Red Mars trilogy is one of my favorites.

Does playtesting include mild editing? Typoes, grammare, spelling, and that.

I've just started and it looks pretty good.

Yea, just send me a plaintext file or a PM with the typos and their context.
