Elf blood rain in a good area
« on: May 21, 2015, 06:17:22 am »

So, i settled in a good area surrounded by sinister areas.  I picked a 2x2 area, but, the moment i started to dig, I got hit with elf blood rain.  I figure i got a few tiles of evil in here somewhere, but is there a way to tell what they are?

You don't actually need evil squares on your embark, you can have evil weather 1-2 tiles away from evil areas.

You sure about that? Because every time I embarked where parts of my zones where evil only the actual evil zone parts of my embark had any evil weather. (Could of course be a recent change if so.)

Elf blood rain
good area

I don't see the problem here.

Yeah, I know it sounds like a really good place to strike the Earth to most dwarves...  And maybe you're thinking you could set up elf blood waterfalls onto statues of dwarves killing elves, and create some elf blood mist...

But just keep in mind, the elf blood probably carries some ETDs (elvishly transmitted diseases) or something.  Yeah, you should definitely dig down and put something solid and sterile between you and the elf blood.

Different z levels can have different biomes.  I had gnome blood snow in an entirely neutral biome and poked around using dfhack's probe.  Turned out that the ground was all neutral, but 4 z levels up it was a max evil biome across some of the map.  It was near to some evil mountains, I'm guessing that had something to do with it.

for ages dwarfs have been soaked on elven blood during their many clashes without any harm coming from it....

well actually in retrospect i think getting your head messed up by weird elven diseases might actually explain a thing or two about why dorfs act the way they do...

It's not recent. I got evil weather in a non-evil area all the way back in... whatever the major version before 0.34 was. 0.31? Lost a ten-year-old fort to a stupid thralled giant peregrine falcon because I hadn't expected it and so didn't take precautions.

I looked at my nobles in my town. Something li ke 99% of them are goblins, but when i looked at the civ history, all i get is "Goblin has become a noble in xxxx" There is no mention of a site getting conquered.

Use Legends Viewer or World Viewer.  That tends to make things simpler.

Odds are good that what happened was that your dwarven civ conquered a goblin site, and dwarvenized the goblins.  Then, because goblins, if they are ever accepted into dwarf or human lands, never starve or die of old age, they tend to take over and build up insane skill levels while they're at it.  Enjoy your legendary lyemaker goblin king of dwarves.

ah, that makes sense. I was wondering just because I did check legends viewer, and there was nothing about a civ being conquered in either direction. It was just "So and so goblin whatever has joined "the warm spears."
