Actually, metal will make elves angry.

Never had an issue. Wiki says there is no issue either:

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

weird I think the bold part of the wiki made me misread it as don't accept. Or some other suitable excuse.

Just generated a fortress on a roc nest. A quick dfhack click here and there trapped them inside, so I'll have a roc hatchery in this fortress eventually, when I'm ready for it.

Have some workshops set up, got a dining room, rooms for all nineteen dwarves...
Two kobold thieves have shown up, but I don't think they took anything of value, if anything at all.
Also, a possessed dwarf made a llama bone shield worth about 4,000 dwarfbucks, so if I never use it I'll have a hefty bartering token.

That's a damned fine shield. Only downside is poor bashing but it'll do everything else about it is great. Unless, y'know, it depicts dwarves being killed by other dwarves, elephants, and magma. Then it's equal parts terrible and hilarious.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Whilst aiding to deconstruct some scaffolding on the ceiling of the Broke, Mestthos Spryfountain fell 22zlvls down onto the ground. A slab for Mestthos is being prepared to be placed in the Broke at once, and shall join the slab being placed in honour of Captain Litast who died of old age. One was past their prime and the other was wasted before theirs. It's always a sad day for the Fort to lose a soldier and a soldier to be.

Apparently, one of the engravers in my new fort was the heir to a barony – somewhere else – and now he's a baron. Of somewhere else.

On top of that, before he was an engraver, he was a hunter, until on his first hunt at my fort he managed to get his arm bitten off by a wounded yak. He's done nothing but complain to whichever dwarf happens to be in charge since the incident. So.. will he just... go and be the baron of somewhere else, somewhere else? 'Cause now he's asking for baron housing.

In other developments, the greatest threat in the area appears to be mountain gnomes, who have a bad habit of drinking the merchants' alcohol and then getting ripped apart by dogs. This would be welcome except mountain gnomes are apparently dwarfopomorphic enough that the sight of their mangled bodies horrifies the local citizenry. One wonders if this will cause a tantrum spiral at some point...

Oh also there's a vampire and they seem to have gotten harder to detect since the last time I played DF, so this should be interesting.

trap the gnomes, apparently you can breed and butcher them. Gnome steaks all around.

you're stuck with the baron, unless something unfortunate happens to him. They don't require as much as some nobles, so they aren't terrible. I managed to make my duke happy again by fulfilling everything he wanted and letting him engrave his own chambers. He was a pretty agreeable guy, though.

Found adamantine for the first time after breaking into the second cavern layer for the first time and finding the magma sea... It's a bit out of reach at the moment, but I'll find a way to get to it after a while...

Several haulers were beaten for exporting forbidden items.
One of them was infected.
I suspected the bathtub was dirty so I abandoned it and made a waterfall instead.

Hm. Platinum goblet. At least I have another legendary engraver. The mountainhome will pay double for amulets, so now I've got the stone crafter just crafting.

Well, I just discovered porcelain! This stuff is just as expensive as silver, plus I can toss on an ash glaze, which I have tons of. Billon, dolomite, and porcelain goods will be my main export from now on.

I just breached my first cave! It's filled with gems and seems mostly monster-free. Unfortunately, it's also filled with water, so I can't really get inside. Anyone know how to dry this place out?
I've also begun digging out a new set of bedrooms, since we're running out of space. All together, both levels will have 200 rooms. I'm increasingly tempted to move the whole fort down a good ways, at least once the caves are cleaned out.

Magma!
Alternatively (a.k.a. safely and, more importantly, boring), drain it into the magma sea.
Even more safely, pump stack, then weaponize it.

WHY immigrants contain so many traders?
Well, not a problem to me. I sent them to detail floors so they would become engravers soon enough.

Does your dwarven civilization worship a god of trading?  I noticed that my civ worshipped two gods that like fish, and I swear 1/3 of my immigrants are fishermen.
