Yes! I almost forgot that I still have three aces in my sleeve^^
Edolkalan, The Weathered Trails, a rhyolite statue of Ingish Lashhush
Arinnothis, The Trustworthy grief, a birchen floodgate and
Nazomabir, The Dreamy Romances, a andesite mechanisms.

Hopefully they will help me get the royal quarters up to par...

can I somehow use my artifact drum amulet and wool skirt to improve quarters too?

I don't know if items in a Stockpile can be admired (haven't play 40.xx much), but you can try assigning your Artifacts to her room that way.  If you have access to a river or aquifer, a Mist Generator is always a solid bet.  Also, give her a private Zoo (stuff a bunch of animals into a single cage, create Zoo in her room).

Well I didn't even think to write it down and it's too late now

Do you use dwarf therapist?

No I only play vanilla

Also how do you make anvils?
I couldn't find them in the forge menu
Are they under other? Furniture? Where are they?

Anvils are forged under the furniture menu for iron and steel only.

I'm surprised you don't know that... ???

Well I'm glad I was able to help.

How did you get suitable weapons and armour in your other forts, then? The caravans don't provide near enough.

My forts have never lasted more than 4 maybe 5 years:
This was the first fort I tried making a decent trained military in.

One other fort I got a few skilled smith migrants and a cheap anvil from a caravan and that's how I got that one running

But ya it was usually just random crap from caravans.

I remember one fort (my first Titan fight too) I used the deconstruct depot while trading glitch and that caravan had some pretty decent stuff, it also helped that my weapons smith went moody and made a platinum war hammer.
The ash beast that breathed first took out half my military but didn't do much damage to my populace as a whole, what took that fort out was one of th dwarves that died was one of the most popular ones there. He was befriended by most, and in the running a for mayor.
His (cousin?) went tantrum ing and platinum war hammer dwarf beat his skull in
Then that tipped a few other dwarves off the edge, they start tantrum ing and picking fist fights then get slaughtered by the town guard (accidentaly armed them with metal stuff) and then tantrum spiral.
I usualy say f-it and do retarded stuff that screws up everything, I dug up the pond that the fort was built around
Much fun

Dwarven teeth are very hard, as we know, so biting the teeth could have some bad consequences for the biter if he is not lightly tapping the target. What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

When Toady adds the chance for an attacker to injure himself, I shall make another donation.

The only two civilizations left is the dying dwarven civilization The Gold of Spots and a goblin civ that has eaten the map. Nationspillar is only 43 dwarves strong, but needs to cater to the recently appointed king/legendary miner. Luckily he is a reasonable guy and has thus far only been mandating the production of bolts and greaves and banning their export. Presently assemblylining gold statues to beef up his quarters until the engravers can get to work. No sign of the goblins yet, but Nationspillar is practically in their backyard and only a year and a half in.

Also designing a crossroad at the entrance that will lead invaders into a huge killzone of bolty hate before releasing the close combat squad to mop up.

Bonus: Nationspillar is now minting coins, all of which depict former kings and queens. It's a new dawn.

A were-gopher showed up and ate the freshly minted legendary mason (member of the starting seven) before the military could catch up with it. The two legendaries dealt with the problem in a very convincing fashion: chopped off an arm first, then the hammerlady scored a hit to the neck that disabled all limbs and the axelord finished the fight by removing the head. The secondary squad has started sparring, so they're shaping up alright. Two gigantic humanoids and one were-beast so far, the most trouble we had with buzzard invasions. "Yes yes, interrupted by a featherball, shut up and work out how to use your damn crossbows, you bunch of loons."

While this has been going on, i was putting together the object sample for my

"After a polite discussion with local rivals, Ber Lensauthorhas claimed the position of king of The Courageous Arena."

Wait.. WHAT!?  :o
But the caravan and liaison have been coming every year without fail!
And so have the migrants!
And we're not ready for a king, we don't even qualify for a barony. :(

UPDATE:
Migrants, liaison and caravan still arriving, we're definitely not extinct. What gives?

Is it possible the king died and one of his children lived in your fort?

Yeah, when you have a king, migrants will come even if you kill everyone. Normally this will scare them off.
