Woohoo, it's giant cheetah time! Elves brought along a female, and I already caught a male earlier. I like cheetahs, and giant ones are just swell! :) Should be perfect for chasing down those annoying kobolds.

I came home, and Tradegray hit 0 FPS. If that's not an FPS death, I don't know what is. I'm sorry lads, but it looks like I'll not be playing DF again until I get a better CPU.

Damn, and I thought I had computer problems...

Mine happen to be difficulties with temperature when trying to play most 3D games and some 2D games (probably due to having the stock Intel 4000 graphics card).

Anyway, my fort's rank/position/status got upgraded, and with that comes new needs for nobles. I've had a (singular, one) dump established, and have been putting stone into it.

En masse.

Cue loads of dwarves taking a long time but doing what I asked. Okay.

I've been getting a lot more plants as of late (again).

I'm on the verge of establishing the "National Self-Defense Training" system, but I can't quite muster up the courage to dare try it...

I might need to get more military infrastructure (an additional barracks close by to the entrance or dining hall, leather armor to train with as well as training weapons, etc.) before I get the confidence to do so.

Ah well.

No luck trying to get to the cavern, for better or worse.

I don't have enough books!!!! I have had two full time scholars for a few years now and they have one book. Why are they so bad at this.

I had a were-zebra show up and kill a random wild ostrich, then run off. I was actually worried for a while, but it seems like it's gone? Now I just need to get started on my paper industry, and find some way of getting stone.

Also, apparently dwarves actually bury dwarves that became were-beasts now. My brother had a dwarf get bitten and kill two others before getting killed, and they actually buried them all.
It seems like were-beasts are citizens now, they just start out berserk?

Pretty much. The CRAZED tag is what makes them kill everything that's not of their species. If you modded in a syndrome-cum-interaction that removed that tag, you could have peaceable werebeasts.

Did it use to be different?

you might get lucky enough to have one of your Dwarfs-already-there inherit/argue for their title as king. Alternatively; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBmCJEehYtU&

That was staggeringly fantastic.

Now... it might be a bit of fun.  Or, you might be suggesting that I accept a clown as ruler.  In which case you might be a goblin.  Are you wearing troll fur underwear?
I'm not but I'd kill for a troll fur cloak. Like, jesus you've got to give them that as a point in style. Also I just wanted to link PMJ and Puddles, theys hella good

If you got enough trolls from the caverns, processed and raised from a young age (in a newer build with sentient containment bugs eliminated), butchering them via discreet goblin residents and fashioning the fur into a toga is a natural step up.

"This is a +Finely Made+ Troll Fur toga, it is embroided with tiger eye gems and has leather image sown on of a dwarf surrounded by trolls, it is banded in rings of Troll Bone and jagged spikes of obsidian."

I've got a FB with a spit attack trapped and set it on a dog from a safe distance, to see what it did. It... doesn't seem to be doing anything. The dog has been coated with it for months but hasn't shown any ill effects. Should I sacrifice a dwarf to check if it has some effects that aren't obvious on a dog - emotional changes or something? Or should I just butcher it?

I'm still working on my temple challenge.

I need a "fire" element in my temple, and the obvious choice is magma.

I am hoping for some ignitable furniture artifact, and burn that forever and produce smoke.

I wonder if I can just burn finished goods artifact instead by dumping it in a shallow 2/7 magma pit.

The first squad of my cross-training group has been created! Comprised of a few migrants and a few existing dwarves, none of them military.

I put them to train in the month right after timber (I think) and gave them a leather armor loadout.

So yeah. I might be able to use all the leather I've been hoarding, for starters.

My people are all still dumping rocks. Oops. Maybe I should let them stop.

Not sure if artefacts can be dumped, but you coud always reverse and dump magma on it. It should ignite the item. Smoke might also kill your FPS by blocking pathing.

Bonus points for getting a flammable artefact minecart, and making that run around your temple. Never seen an artefact minecart yet though, not sure if moodable.
