@King Kitteh: Eh, per embark point dogs and poultry are superior anyway ^^;;
Meh. Often times I choose roleplay over usefulness. I like to choose chickens and sheep often, despite them being inferior in almost everyway to Llamas and Turkeys.

I wish camels were feasible for desert embarks, why are they so expensive?

Odd, sheep seem to work fine. Wht, do llamas grow hair faster?

Yeah, they give more meat and yarn than sheep. Although, sheep are twice as cheap. Perhaps a better comparison is Llamas and Alpacas.

I prefer a mix of turkey and peafowl. Turkey gives lots of meat and eggs, but they have to be replaced more often. Peafowl live much longer, so I like to have a mix of them.
Plus, nothing like a Peacock dinner and strutting around in Peacock leather boots.

I also suggest packing bituminous coal, since it is stupidly cheap and can be turned into a lot of coke.

The goblins finally sent us a real seige! With trolls and beak dogs! They were slaughtered without losses, with some small assistance from the dorf caravan guards that have been stuck in my depot for the last year.
Think its probably about time I tore down the depot and got rid of them, their horses are breeding like crazy and my fps is hurting.  :'(

My third titan showed up too. This one was a mountain titan that breathed flames. It beat a few civvies to death but couldn't touch the militia.
The hardest part was getting them to path to it through the smoke. In the end two mace lords (one with a flail and the other a whip  ??? ) killed it on their own.

Meanwhile the waterworks is close to being operational. Smoothing of all pipes and channels to prevent growths and removing all the rocks that might clog it up is done, soon we can start up the reactor.
Then we just need to build 35z worth of pump stack and I can begin turning this desert into an oasis of decadence.  8)

This. You can never have too much coke.

And how she died of old age and the baby became an orphan.  :o

Oh, this is what happens when a fire forgotten beast drops into the lake.

That kid's gonna need some bituminous coal to deal with that.

Ah, shit the teeth were too hot and they destroyed the wood coffin. :o

Or some coke.

The baby died.
A fire forgotten beast got her.
What left was some teeth.

The teeth caught fire after I reloaded the save...
Well, guess I need some slabs.

Acquired 14 more words to inhabit my hovel. Begun attempts to exploit bugs to produce steel, since this map has only native silver, galena, tetrahedrite, and garnierite. Swimming in silver and lead of course. Bought some farm animals and pastured them in a room underground. Have bridges and watch animals to protect the fort from invaders, and a little tavern going. Tavern completely lacking in furniture and booze, but people are still showing up nonetheless.

Heh. Water is perhaps best terrain to fight fire FBs in (not sure if they can fire diagonally, if not snaking corridors would be helpful for meleeing them). Shame water doesn't take heat away from tiles surrounding them, but still.

Hmmm, I have an idea. If I could get the save out there, would anyone have interest in trying to siege a fort taken by goblins?

Also, how can you do that. It is new to me.
