Well, this is new. I just got visited by a "mate of the wicked hag poet" and a "zombie giant jaguar". They came as actual visitors, not as attackers. Apparently, they both somehow re-socialised and became poets at some point.

...except they didn't, really. As soon as they arrived, they started attacking everyone nearby. I had to send out the military to deal with them. Never seen this happen before.

Edit: Also, funny enough, that night creature killed a visiting goblin poet who carried a book with him about how he got attacked by a night creature once.
Ha, whoops.
I've noticed night trolls settle down in regular civilized sites in worldgen once or twice before. I guess the game just picked them up along with the usual bunch of monster hunters and bards and threw them your way. Zombie jaguars you can find in town catacombs and dungeons sometimes. I suppose that's where this one came from (for whatever reason).
Having done a lot of legends diving, I know the bug that causes this. When these creatures settle in town catacombs and dungeons, and that town is conquered, the outcasts in the sewers and such become refugees. They end up getting included in the refugee group that flees the site and their hostile nature is... forgotten. Sometimes they remember to be evil again later, such as werebeasts who out themselves again on the next full moon, or zombies who get chased out for being immortal. Other times I've seen sewer gators and trolls become valued members of society. It's a fun bug in my opinion.
how do we know it’s a bug? I haven’t had this happen before, but it sounds to me like a feature
Because the moment you encounter them in Adventurer and Fortress they remember to be evil and start killing everything around them. Bug.

I also found a related bug report (0011252) about night trolls joining religious organisations, then fleeing to civilised society when they are persecuted. So yes, it seems to be related to them becoming refugees for one reason or the other.

Even so, them suddenly forgetting how to be civilised when they come to a player fort would certainly be a bug.

I got a migrant that has "raised undead" status called a "forlorn stalker" title. I think I read necromancer migrants are a bug, are they bug as well? What is this guy, he isnt missing arms or anything

An intelligent undead. Far as I know it's nearly impossible to not have them distracted, but they're retardedly hard to kill since they don't care about silly things like breathing or broken bones. Might also have magic powers (like ice bolts or something.)

Probably a bug, yeah. Like necromancers, shouldn't happen or at least should be extremely rare, have a secret identity, or both. They apparently don't look undead.

Experiments are the only weirdos that are meant to visit.

The guy shoots a spinning icicle. I just had a human bard whose petition i accepted become a law-giver. Does that do anything special or just a status update?

It technically means you have the ruler of another civ living in your fort now, if he doesn't leave anyway. Law-givers don't have any special requirements though far as I know.

It just means the old law-giver of their civ died. Dynamic positions have no mandates or requirements, so for fort mode gameplay, it's just a title that does nothing.

Watching with some amusement at how my 6 year old fort is slowly spiralling down due to a werebeast having bitten more people than I expected, and those people turning in the tavern, thus setting off the necromancer, and now my halls are filled with zombies...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I am now opening up the caverns so that the titan I locked in there can play along. :)

EDIT: Ooh, and I am having my first goblin siege in years! :D

EDIT2: And... somehow survived all of that. Now retiring the fort, I'll see who has joined in a few ingame years. :)

We have just had a Migrant Wave arrive, and one of the Migrants mooded while still flashing the X.

He is a Metalcrafter, and has suffered the grave Misfortune of coming to Dreamsinks before We started Our Metal Industry.  We do not even possess so much as an Anvil or Smelter, and it is Spring.

We have tried to expel him, but being totally taken by the Mood he will not leave.

Pray for Dreamsinks, that it may survive.

We regret to inform you that he has since succumed to Insanity, due to the complete lack of both Metals and Anvils.  Thankfully, not only is his Insanity not a Hazard to other Dwarfs, but We were able to wall him up before he took Leave of his Senses.

most dwarves I have don’t use metal for their artifacts. I thought the ingredients needed were based on what the fort is able to produce

I think they look for metal (available somewhere on most maps), but not if you have an anvil or a workshop.
Same way they spot spider silk way down in the monster-filled caverns, but ignore the lack of it safely in your cloth pile. No mood would ever fail if they just looked at what you are able to make right now, and we know that's not the case.
