Sort of a cheaty solution, but you can also appoint them as the new mayor for a bit.  I did that with a stranded necromancer dwarf who was standing for months trying to attend a meeting.  After becomming mayor, he immediately got back to work.

That was a fine battle...

I always attempt to fight fire-beasts on stony ground and in large rooms. There is already too much risk of a dwarf being set on fire and smothering other dwarfs, to allow ground vegetation to also contribute smoke.

This is a good idea.  I instead in a long-ago fort opted to fight one in a crowded tavern packed with dwarves and with a booze stockpile and everything caught on fire and everyone died.  Well, I didn't actually make that choice consciously, but I did learn that a central staircase down to the caverns with a tavern on top isn't really a great idea.

The trouble I've had with locking dwarves in little stress-boxes is, they wind up standing around for ages trying to "Attend Meeting"... any potential need-filling time kinda goes down the drain, unless you lock the mayor in with them or whatever.
Come to think of it it, I DON'T like my Mayor, he keeps getting re-elected, and this performer just murdered three guys in a row for no apparent reason....

Despite a tantruming Skilled Hammerdwarf (who eventually got sentenced to a visit with the hammerer. Who was his only daughter. Who killed him without much fuss and then went dancing.) I've FINALLY managed to get a fortress in this version to become the mountainhome, without the save corrupting!
It took 4 forts, on 3 worlds, all of which but this one had the save corrupt around the time we became a dutchy. (I turned on autobackups but losing almost an entire season is rather discouraging, so, I reset a few times.)

The queen, and her cohort, naturally, arrived just after we broke a siege, and her consort died defending her from a goblin... rather than letting the legendary macedwarves deal with it, like any reasonable person would have.
But the Queen made it uninjured into the fort, and is currently inspecting her quarters. She seems happy with the masterwork gold funishings.

Fired of Fireblade for the first time in a while. Got a rotten zombie visitor (promptly beaten to death,) one of many I keep getting.

I don't know why they keep showing up. I know for a fact they're operating under necromancer orders, I keep killing them, but the keep. Fucking. Sending them. Various other unscrupulous types too.

Also fought off another necromancer attack this consisting of two rotten zombies and like 4 zombies, the latter of which quite literally just wandered off and left the map, abandoning the Hand of Postlance and Elf rotten zombies to try and fight like 30 armed and trained dwarves alone. Spoiler alert, it went horribly for the rotten zombies.

Another ghoul also visited, died horribly after sitting and glaring at my elephant calves for a bit, and I've launched a retaliatory attack against The Large Smokes (the necromancers who apparently have a bone to pick with me.) Since it's a small site, hopefully 20 hardened veterans will have no issues sacking the place.

Legendary speardwarf with anger issues confessed to espionage.
Prison sentence of about 300 days... halfway through it his stress dropped to -100k.
Repentance +25 repeatedly, Rapture communing with diety, Euphoric from inebriation.
Annoyed being completely naked the entire time.
My prison cells are too nice, each with a mini-temple.  Is this the making of a career criminal?

No, that's great. He has anger issues. If you hadn't had such great prison cells, you'd have a berserk legendary speardwarf on your hands. I think this is better.

Imagine the scene when he gets unchained... He calmly stands up from his prayers, thanks the (female) Captain of the Guard for the pleasant confinement, and walks naked as a jaybird to collect his armor, shield, and weapon... whistling a merry tune as he passes through the halls!

In other news from Torchlaud...

Another success of the justice system:  Helmstemple the Sick Courage (an artifact amulet) is found in a goods bin 3 years after being stolen and put on display in the artifact chamber.  The dwarf conspirator to the tree-loving thief had only recently confessed and is in prison (there was a long interrogation queue). The thieving elf's corpse has since rotted as he was killed 3 years ago and the amulet presumed lost.

Something weird happened at Craft Riddle.  I was playing, without recording, waiting for time to pass and the traders to show up when one of the kids had a tantrum.  And he attacked two other kids.  And changed.  He went from a face symbol to a "@" like you see in adventure mode.

Before I could even call in the military the citizens around him butchered him - like he was an enemy invader.  But then his corpse was put in a coffin and not in the dump.

So now I am pretty confused.  On top of that the traders finally showed up but the settlement seems to be in a "tantrum spiral" and my law enforcement can't put people in chains/cages fast enough to please the victims who, themselves, are throwing tantrums.  A pig was killed, a turkey wounded, a workshop destroyed, and lots of of the citizens are being wounded.

It is DF_44_12 so likely this kind of thing is now rare but I have never seen a Dwarf go from this " :)" to this "@".  Wish I had taken a image of it.

It just said tantrum but it did change his name also.  When a Dwarf shows up I give them a custom name based on gender, their marriage status, and which migrant wave they are.  So it ends up looking like this "SM-1013 NAME".  When it became a "@" he went back to his original name - as if he had lost citizenship.  But when I checked his dead body in the coffin he had his post-arrival custom name again.  I really wish I have taken a image.  It was like he was no longer part of the settlement and had become an invader for the time it took them to kill him.

Yeah that sounds like they flipped their shit and went crazy. Tantrums usually preface some manner of insanity and if the tile changed, they were either a werecreature (which doesn't appear to be the case,) or went berserk.

Civies dogpiled them due to the insane numerical advantage and/or a desire to fight, do something exciting, or help whoever went after the berserking dorf first, and now things are going to hell in a handbasket cause they had to see the corpse of a citizen.

EDIT: I just watched a wrestler take down a giant. Not an armed dude marked as a wrestler, but an honest to gods unarmed combat specialist I had (uncreatively) named Fist, since she had those skills but none in a weapon when she first came to Fireblade.

Not weighed down with a shield or weapon, she quickly ran the beast down as it chased some stray cattle around and with a single kick, knocked it unconscious. Before anyone could even catch up to steal her glory, First punched it in the head so hard its head exploded.

Edem "The Fist" Bustcleaned, has been bestowed the custom profession of "Giant Slayer" in honor of this tremendous accomplishment without a weapon.

We managed to miss half a Crundle Intrusion.

Our Dwarfs, on the other Hand, did not.  They also noticed Six thieving Vultures before We did.
