The baroness created an artifact blowgun...
Maybe I should give it to a swordsdorf.

What's the artifact's name?

Had a Forgotten Beast show up, so I sent my military after it.

They met it in a single tile-wide corridor. The results were... messy.

Finally, my soldiers were able to overwhelm it and deal the finishing blow.

It wasn't the spears or hammers or axes; dwarven fingernails were what saved the day.

I was going to say "fail spectacularly", but you guys seem to be doing a great job of that already.

A, yes, the wonderfully balanced unarmed combat system. Either this needs some rewriting or dwarven fingernail clippings should be made a possible material for sharp weapons in the absence of metal.

I think it's mostly just that dwarves are fucking crazy. Also, they don't have access to nail clippers. Their nails are probably extremely long, really disgusting and up to an inch thick.

Does that mean male hydras... oh god dammit.

I would love to see bone weapons
Like clubs and spears, it would be great for a starter military
Or a caveman fort

Okay, so my last fortress got obliterated by accidentall breach into HFS. Oops.

Started a new fortress, on a brave new world. This world is special in that all the civs are dead except a very big 10000 strong goblin civ with 5000 trolls in it.

My civ is dead, and after the 2 hardcoded migrant waves i got a total of 15 dwarves. Necromancer tower and goblins are fairly close to me, so should be pretty fun.

Do wonder if i will actually get besieged by goblins with only 15 dwarves. Maybe if i create loads of wealth...

The dwarf infected the FB with a syndrome with those nasty nails.  Rapid septic shock!

So trying to have my dwarves bucket water onto the beast won't work but what about redirecting an underground river to pouring into the pit
Would that work?

It might, but there is an equal chance that the flame critter will be hot enough to vaporize the water as it comes into contact with it.  I haven't seen a flame beast die in water since 31.25.  You are almost certainly going to have to use military intervention at some point if you plan to use that layer of the caverns for anything.

I don't think the fort will last the long.
If I have to use my military I'm going to build a staircase down to a few levels above the beast and send my marksdwarves down to shoot it from a distance

Sorry for double posting
Would I be able to drown it if the river flows down there for long enough?

Alternatively, set up a cave in trap and lure it up with a box or something. Flip a switch on the prepared hunk of rock/built floor, and boom. no more fire monster.

I currently have no way to get to it.
It's at least 40~50 z levels below the cavern I am currently in

Perhaps you're unfamiliar with a concept called "miners." :P

Or masons for that matter. That distance may be outside a marksdwarf's LOS regardless.

I understand how miners work
And earlier I said I would mine down and make a ledge for the marksdwarves to fire from just a few levels about the beast
