A female dwarf in my fort 'likes Python men for their great size' Wow, impossible standards. I think I should build a giant Python man statue just for her :D

I'm about to copy/paste a DF save from one computer to another. I keep stalling and contemplating the metaphysical consequences instead.

What would it be like to live in a world that was copy/pasted? Would we even notice? If not, how many times have we switched celestial harddrives or whatever?

 ???

Not as bad as a world where the raws have been copy/pasted.

Imagine waking one day, and suddenly, your entire family is anthropomorhic animals, everyone you know is dead, aberrational or part of a higher force and reality has been twisted 180 degrees and is at right angles to itself.
Actually, Philip K. Dick woulda loved Dwarf fortress.

Dwarf Fortress is easy because it's meant to be written to file and re-loaded. I don't know if the real world is designed that way - if it's meant to be constantly running, it would be difficult to copy.

Incidentally, the reason we sleep at night is to increase FPS by only having ~2/3 of the world's population active at a time.

Got a siege when I still had just a dozen dwarfs (yes, in 2014!) the one melee-military dwarf I had was in the wrong place, got hit by a single copper arrow, which knocked him into a weapon trap, and the trap killed him. (Note, this was a very WEAK weapon trap -- three spiked wooden balls -- but they hit him about 20 times each before he died.) Didn't have any decent armor for him yet, wasn't expecting gobos so soon.

Much !Fun! ensued.

(Though we did manage to kill all the gobos -- it was a very SMALL seige -- but I lost the fort a few in-game weeks later due to getting distracted by something while a cistern was filling, and by the time I got back to it, the switch to close the floodgate was underwater.) Actually, I just "retire for now"ed the fort at that point, because I was curious what the world-simulator would do with a flooded fort, for !SCIENCE!. I've embarked another fort nearby, and when it's run it's course, I'll check Legends for what happened to the first fort. Haven't gotten any refugees from it yet, which is surprising.

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

How do we know we aren't filed and reloaded every so often? Or at least paused? What if someone comes into the room, a Celestial being wouldn't be rude enough not to look up for a minute with all of its eldritch eyes.

EDIT: bay12: where you drown or near-drown half your dwarves, abandon them with instructions to remain in place as the water comes crashing down and then are surprised none want to come to the new fort you're running.

I doubt that you would realise if the universe was paused, though, being one of the things that would be frozen. Ten billion years could lie between one breath of yours and the next.

Exactly. And The Godhead's little sister might wander in and start messing with the console commands any minute.

So a Forgotten Beast walks into a family of Magma Crabs . . .  And burns half the forest on its way to hell.
