Hey, snakes don't have those!

I think/hope.

I was hoping you'd said 'snakes don't have one of those', but alas.

Gravelsears lost 5 legendary warriors to a siege.  Not to the siege itself, though; oh no.  That was the usual gobbo rabble, 30 of the greenies with 20 troll auxiliaries.  Oh no, that's not the problem at all.

The problem is that they were cave adapted.  And the sun came out.  So my precious little steel-clad, adamantine-armed princelings, Avatars of Death that they were, STOPPED FIGHTING TO LIE AROUND AND PUKE AND WHINE LIKE LITTLE GIRLS.

I allowed them to be buried... but I swear I wanted to throw them in the magma with the gobbos and put their slabs in the trash heap.  Useless gits.

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

So this just happened, in the middle of a hill titan siege:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's some House of Cards shit right here.

What should I do with her?
She likes picks, leggings, coffins (no suprise here) and ballista parts.
She is  an expert intimidator, persuader, negotiator, comedian and pacifier.
Master Furnance operator and a great Weaponsmith.
But she also values sacrifice, so maybe I should sacrifice her for the good of the fortress?

Things Bastiongate Taught Me #4: Always Put Your Barracks Outside With No Roof

Learned that the hard way, myself. But yes: Now melee always practices in an open-to-the-sky outdoor barracks, and archery squads all have to take a turn on patrol duty.

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

Glass blocks.

for added security, make your barracks in shallow soil, channel out the barrack area similar to how you'd expose a subsurface farm to the sunlight, and then floor it over with glass blocks.

Nope. Any roof counts as blocking light and protects from sun. Sorry.

Might be imagining this, but if you reveal it to the sun and then roof it over, doesn't it still think it's revealed to light?

I have vague recollections of reading that somewhere.

hunh.  So it doesnt.  I just tried it infort.  A retractable bridge might, however.

Still securable and you can selective use it.

Above ground inside prevents cave adaption from getting worse, but they have to be outside to be cured and vomiting.

As much as I hate to say it, I think you're having a bit too much fun with this game.
