Oh, and also apparently I found some aquifer tiles or something hidden in the rocks despite the fact the embark said there wasn't any. Yay.
Did you do the F1/F2 thing to check if your embark overlapped two or more biomes? By default, it only shows the biome that coveres the most space in your embark, but sometimes there's also a second biome over part of it that does have an aquafer.
Yep, always do. I'm on the corner of three biomes, and none of them had an aquifer tag. At least it's not an aquifer layer, just a small area, but yeah...do not want.

Although now I have a handy well for all my guys to go wash themselves by. Useful since I don't have a river/stream/brook or any murky pools.

@Borge, judging by my adventure mode experiment it does seem to be alcohol poisoning.

I think the fact they suffocate is supposed to simulate them choking to death on their own vomit, as before the suffocation happens you start getting dizzy, then lose consciousness and fall over.

I don't get why a kitten would die like that, though...Has noone seen animals drinking stuff in this version?

Violence has happened in the form of battling trogs. An axedwarf has an injured hand, but otherwise the extermination effort is going well. A few kobold sightings have been the only other major event, and I'm unsure of the status of the war against the goblins.

Just starting to think about setting up my first temple. Obviously I'm going to need to know what deities exist.

How is this not ARMOK?!?!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm switching one of his ardent worshippers over now to start training as a blacksmith. We're going to need some master work steel statues of this bad-boy.

Ha, that's awesome!
Definitely worthy of at least one temple, that fellow. :)
Preferably with an arena built into it, that his followers might shed blood in his name.

Building giant walls full of siege engines and other pointies/sharpies/smashies outside and digging out the King's chambers in preparation for his imminent arrival. The walls are in addition to my 5 legendary squads and 3 trainee squads.

Looks like all cats are being restricted to the food stockpiles, my one male one just died of random :c He is covered in vomit too so probably the random alcohol poisoning. Note to self, don't allow animals in the tavern.

A wererabbit just went on two consecutive killing sprees. The expedition leader was killed as well as both miners.

I recommend opening a bug ticket for this. Cats getting drunk when they spend time in a tavern is almost certainly not intended.

The great thing about Dwarf Fortress is that you had to say "almost".

I'm in the old new version still, and my troglodyte had a baby. My wife keeps looking at me in a disconcerting fashion. I mean, sure it was in a cage, but it's entirely possible it was pregnant before that.

Seriously, though, didn't know trogs bred in DF.

I had a trog give birth while scaling a wall. Just before one of my crossdorfs loosed a bolt at her. The trog baby drowned.

They said the walls were impregnable. You didn't have to prove me wrong by giving birth on them.

Things in my fortress have gone pear-shaped really fast.

So here I am with 109 or so dwarves and human mercenaries, minding our own business. We've began pumping out iron for the forges so we can arm our first melee squad, and brewing drinks to quench my citizens' relentless thirst. I've got a 10-man squad that's 70% human, as yet unbloodied.

I knew things would get bad really quickly. I just didn't expect it to be this terrible.

First, a Desert Titan with web-shooting powers showed up and went through my pastures, killing all my animals. I got everyone inside in time and got the gates up, so my people are OK. That's fine, I can deal with this. I've pierced the caverns so worse comes to worst, I can harvest plants inside.

Then came the goblins.

2 and a half pages of goblins, mounted on beak dogs. Trolls. A couple of humans with gobbo names. Half are melee, half are ranged. Right now, as I type this, the Titan and the gobbos are about to make contact. On reflection, this is very much like Boatmurdered, with the elephants and the goblins.

Except I have no magma.

EDIT: The Titan fell to the goblin attack, but not before it killed two goblins and caused the rest to run for it. The only remnant of the siege is the goblin lasher that killed the Titan.

I'm sending out my Varangian Guard to engage the greenskin.

Pretty please can we see the combat logs?
