Update: a breeding pair of giant king cobras.
And the dorfs already nabbed their eggs.  :'(

You just have to wait until they lay eggs again, then forbid the eggs for hauling.

Or set your food stockpile to not accept giant king cobra eggs.

Going to do that, and hope the kitchens decide to grab food from the stockpile next door instead of the usual dwarven logic of taking the longest walk.
I did forbid the next clutch, though. Managed to save two this time. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Recently got back into Dwarfortress...I don't remember Troglodytes being so tough, one of them named Nonubothos got into my fort and killed six of my dwarves and chased my trained military out of the cave level, only being finished off by a dog after getting over exerted injuring and chasing my dwarves.

My library is, oddly enough, where everyone but the military and metal caste spend their entire days. Everyone is oddly enthused about learning of how dwarves aren't real, and pulleys are the key to the future.

My fort has a breeding pair of Giant Cave Spiders and i didnt even realize... O.o

Just had the cavern doors open secured with cagetraps due to all the wannabe monster hunters, which are doing quite a decent job.
I still loathe the fact that my dorfs try to clean up in the caverns tho....

*wonders how to get those two to actually breed without everyone involved getting killed*

I don't know how cave spiders breed (do they need a nestbox?) but I try building the cages somewhere and assigning a low-level animal trainer to them. Once they're semi-wild, you can move them around without getting attacked, which will give you enough time to put them on restraints close enough to breed.

And, uh, leave them in a locked room, probably. Don't want baby spiders overrunning the fortress.

You need to mod them to lay eggs/have a child life stage. I don't think they do by default.

Just started a new fort (testing version 0.44.10) and after designating the first trees to be chopped down, my woodcutter had an unfortunate workplace accident: the tree he chopped fell onto his head exploding it into gore (this happened pretty much in less than a minute after unpausing the game).

Oh well, guess this'll be a very short lived fort then.

The trogs, dear amok the trogs, they just kept coming, some slipped into the lower levels of my fort and bread into a swarm after I sealed off the cave level. I lost my legendary axe dwarf to the bastards, though not without heavy losses to the trogs. The survivors where to depressed to do anything and my fort descended into a tantrum spiral.

Almost the entirety of my fort is fucking around in the tavern, while the rest farm the plump helmets necessary for their wine. Ain't this a joy.

I sent a small squad of dwarves out to go demand tribute from a goblin fortress. Scourgehexes: Approximate population 30.

In the late summer of 104, the dwarve Mistem Oilytattoos clashed with ninety-nine goddamn trolls in Scourgehexes. Are trolls not counted in the population? I guess they'd be considered livestock.
