Can't you assign the queen to the workshop or is she unwilling to work? She should make clothing that is her own size. (Works for my gremlins)
That is interesting. I have to try that.
Currently, she is in the military, and frankly, I am a bit afraid of her. A bit more training I think and she will be able to break the fourth wall. Or something like that.
Learning extremely fast for someone unwilling to listen to anyone.

Demons spawn with natural high combat skills, and depending on her history before coming to your fort she may have raised them even higher. That means she started sparring right away, rather than having to watch demonstrations (ha) until she became competent. Not only that, but sparring causes exhaustion, which doesn't apply to demons because of their [NO_EXERT] tag. She doesn't eat, sleep, or drink either. That means she can train 24/7 with no breaks until she runs out of sparring partners.

I'd love to see what legends has to say about her.

Started my first proper fort in awhile. I decided, in order to shake the rust off, to start in the rustiest location of all: the coast. A savage coast, too.

The plan is to make an underwater library (because I love library-fortresses) while keeping to a nautical theme. That may sound like I have a lot of interesting ideas, but really all I have is 'only make shell armor'.

I've never done anything quite like this, so it's (hopefully) going to be interesting.

I've done very little with raids and such, but I learned that the only daughter of one of my dwarves, a widow who was still dreaming of raising a family, had been kidnapped as a child and had grown up to become the Lady of the Fly of Blazes, the government of the dark fortress Werebeguiler. Werebeguiler was ruled by a slate gray demon and had a couple thousand trolls and beak dogs on top of the goblin population. So, just to see what would happen, I sent my entire diminutive militia after them: about ten assorted Lords and ten more recruits, plus a bunch of war dogs and a handful of war rhinoceroses, to demand their surrender.

Which, to my bewilderment, they did.

They executed the demon and some other goblin, which was a bit of a relief as I thought the Lady of their government might be a target. I looked for her, but she didn't show up anywhere I could get to. I immediately sent a messenger to get everybody back, besides the one who stayed to take over. And most of them did straggle home eventually.

Four of them, however, never returned, and none of the strategies for unsticking them worked. Two of them were legendary and carrying artifact weapons, and one left a wife behind, so I wanted them back. Finally I went back into Legends to see if there was anything to see.

All four of them had immediately moved from the dark fortress to hillocks under my civ's control. One had become a priest of a sect, and all four of them had become Barons--even the two that were goblins. And now I find myself at a loss. I don't see a way to get any of them or their weapons back, the daughter isn't coming anytime soon, I've got a lonely baroness consort who isn't sad at being away from family...yet, and I can't help feeling a bit robbed. Seems like a big win for my civ, but a complete loss for my fort.

I have a few things that you should know:
 - There are only two forgotten beasts left in your world. Given that one of them is on your map, I'm pretty sure there will only be one left by the time you read this. That one is settled in a fortress, so you'll never see it.
 - The Mortified Disloyalty actually have two demons living there: the original master, and the master of the Plague of Dabblers (who was actually deposed and only recently regained his position because one of your raids killed the former master)
 - Damn bro, that ettin really did bring you 3 of the 5 slabs of necromancy in your world. Imagine how powerful he would have been if he could read.
 - There are a few dwarves you should interrogate when you get the chance. Sakzul Wheelfells, Vabok Claspwild, Adil Tirewinds, Reg Brassimage the Hermitic Controllers, and Ingiz Wheelmaster. I always keep one crime unsolved so that I can interrogate whoever I want, whenever I want. It's also generally a good idea to interrogate any and all visitors.

Now, about Queen Sitsu.

In a time before time, she rose from the underworld and founded the Hell of Dishes. However, she was not a battlefield leader. She left that to her generals. So when the Hell of Dishes was conquered by the Crafts of Twilight (dwarves) in 19, she was a non-combatant, and they just let her stay. This was not the case in 104 when the Mortified Disloyalty (goblins) conquered the Crafts of Twilight. They imprisoned her in their dark fortress.

There, despite being a prisoner, she formed a group of criminals. She was very successful, bringing many other gangs into her group over the next few hundred years, while also having quite a few artifacts stolen for her. Then, in 382, she felt secure enough and with the help of her loyal criminal group, she toppled the previous queen of the Crafts of Twilight and installed herself as queen.

At the time, the Crafts of Twilight had no actual sites, and were living under the rule of the Mortified Disloyalty. She had no real power, and simply continued to expand her criminal empire. In 550 when your fort was founded she moved to the old dwarven capital. She was actually planning on having one of your artifacts stolen when she was invited to move to your fort. The rest, you already know.

I should also mention that your general, Cilob Lanceblockades, is an absolute badass. After you retook Cavechanneled, he and a handful of soldiers defended it from a counterattack by the Mortified Disloyalty. He won, despite being outnumbered over 300 to 1. He and all of his soldiers now have 30+ kills.

There is so much hidden greatness in the legends.

I also like reading through the combat reports.  After several announcements of dwarves cancelling jobs due to keas, giant flies, etc. I stationed the archers on top of a hill.  One of the giant flies was soon hit by an arrow in the right wing, chipping it, and tearing a ligament and tendon.  It then crashed and exploded, "The giant fly slams into an obstacle and blows apart!

Shooting down flying wildlife is now a major part of the archery training program.  The trainees have so far shot down 7 keas and 2 giant flies.

I have had so much fun doing this in the past. I'm glad to hear others have discovered it. However, it does create a lot of forbidden boltspam around the map.

Huh. The High Treasurer of the local human civ, who I just negotiated a deal with for some snazzy rhino leather, and who happens to be a goblin, is assigned a bed in my fortress. Seems he's married to a goblin bard who has been employed as a lounge singer in my tavern for years. I guess that's one way to keep a long distance relationship going.

I have a few things that you should know:
Thank you for the insights.
The forgotten beast is still alive. I have no reason to break into that cavern layer. Yet.
And yes, I am pretty proud of my military. Every time I send them to raid a new goblin stronghold I think I accidentally set it to "raze". The list of kills of named goblins just runs on and on.

Which, to my bewilderment, they did.
Something slightly weird is happening.

Gamelog.txt has the following entry from 22nd Moonstone, 259: "`Ruined by the Shiny' Fikodorrun, duchess of Natureworks cancels Make pearlash: Needs 1 potash." (I have a script that timestamps each date change. Also I don't like gem setting as a moodable skill, can you tell?)

On 26th Opal, 259, The Fly of Blazes of The Jackal of Scenarios surrendered Werebeguiler to The Book of Twilight.

Gamelog.txt has the following entry from 12 Granite, 260: "`Ruined by the Shiny' Fikodorrun, duchess of Werebeguiler cancels Make pearlash: Needs 1 potash." (Right about this time I was tearing down a huge section of wall that was made of potash instead of quartzite.)

I didn't see an announcement that said that her position had changed. I couldn't find anything in the log, so I dove back into legends. And legends says this about `Ruined by the Shiny' Fikodorrun: "Related Entities: The Brown Rack (duchess of Werebeguiler, 254 to present)".

So...history has been rewritten. It may be meaningful that on 18 Granite, 260, the king and his entourage arrived at Natureworks, but then it may not, I don't know. Pretty sure it would have been a big surprise to anyone at Werebeguiler in 255 that they had a duchess, though.

i was abhorred, today, to find that my very own master sorceress (a mayoral position) stole an artifact for a foreign agent. The theft was only stopped in time because i had already selected the agent for a routine interrogation after they appeared on the map, causing the master sorceress to follow the agent, and the guard captain who was escorting them, back to the captain's quarters. That and the twenty odd dwarves who witnessed the crime.

So i locked the three of them in the captain's quarters and interrogated both the agent, who is an orkish intelligent undead, and the master sorceress. Both confessed to the crime and were sentenced to be beaten. I then had the agent chained up in a jail cell and locked the door, next to the other undead agent who was sentenced for plotting to steal something. The master sorceress got beaten twice, but has recovered well enough. The artifact was returned to its pedestal. But the criminal masterminds remain at large, along with one of my artifacts, stolen by another undead agent who got away because i didnt have a jail at the time.

[edit]

I supremely fucked up

So after the ork was chained, i spotted my master sorceress go back to talk to them again. I interrogated her again, and learned of another plot to steal the artifact. This time she's jailed too, and the ork was scheduled for a beating. i released the ork from their cage to beat them, but at the same moment as the lever was pulled and the ork was free, another wave of dwarves ran to the captain to report another artifact theft, by an animal trainer, who was already on the way to pass off the artifact, a copper war hammer, to another undead human agent i hadnt noticed entering the map. I quickly ordered them to be interrogated, and sealed the fort to the outside. But i forgot about the cavern trap corridor. There's no door on it, so i ordered the lever to be pulled to retract the bridge, but it seemed the dwarf didnt make it in time, as both the ork and human agents made their escape through the caverns.

But then I got news of the forgotten beast attack, killing a militia dwarf who had been ordered to pursue and attempt to kill the fugitives. It turns out, I ordered the wrong lever pulled, and instead released a deadly web spinning forgotten beast back into the caverns from the bridge-corridor i had trapped them in. It was now in the cage trap corridor, just as the militia and guards starting piling through it. Its next victim was the militia commander, who was summarily flayed.

Luckily a pair of marksdwarves had shown up, and fired at the beast, bringing it to the ground, while a pair of axedwarves chopped it to pieces. It didn't manage to kill anyone else, thankfully. The actual lever to the bridges on the cage trap corridor never got pulled. I am now building a door i can lock behind the inner gate so i can just lock it instead...
