You speak to Eve in a dream; her almost adolescent mind is no longer as flexible as it once was. You try to comfort her, telling her that all will be well. She settles into a comfortable sleep due to your efforts (-1 MP), yet you are unsure as to how you will actually protect her.

In the morning Eve and her mother are taken to the Village chief. When they return, Eve is taken away to be bathed and perfumed, amid protest and tears. You do not understand. Then you overhear a conversation between two village women, and your blood (if you had any) turns cold. You cannot allow this to happen to your first believer, and yet, if you overexert yourself you will be destroyed...

As you ponder your predicament you overhear Eve's mother, praying with wringing hands, in between deep sobs. She is not praying to you, but to Amus, the Great Mother. But Amus answers few calls, only the desperate, only the most devout may rely upon her.

You decide bregrudgingly that this is beyond your abilities to resolve. You swallow your pride and pray to Muta (( yes even gods can pray )), deity of deals, son of Sumidu. You can feel your powers sap from within you, draining you almost to the point of nonexistence.

Then there is a sudden chill, like a winter wind that cuts to the bone. A young man clothed in rich garments appears before you. He regards you and then Eve's mother, without emotion.

"I can help her." He says, almost bored. "But there is a price, as you know...will you pay it?"
