You Are Aware [SG]
« on: June 11, 2015, 01:01:19 am »

You exist.

This much, you are certain of, though perhaps you do not have the language to describe the feeling. Regardless, you are alive.

You do not know how you are alive. You were not aware before now; there is no concept of before. Then suddenly, there is; you percieve the flow of time, and you realise that you not only are, you were, though your were is very short indeed.

Your new mind rapidly tumbles over itself, trying to comprehend the sensation of life. As it does, you find that you are not simply a thought; you can move. You have a body, and small, simple limbs, though they are a wonder to you. You try to wiggle one, then another, then all four, and suddenly you are moving - moving! You comprehend space, and it is a joy. You skitter thoughtlessly, reveling in your discoveries, when suddenly you are different. You move down, and your body ... feels different. You comprehend touch, and you understand that the area you have moved to in space is making your body feel different. When you move, it moves around you loosely and cooly.

Instinctively, you move your mouth to the stuff, and you comprehend taste. The shock makes another part of your body activate, and you are suddenly dazzled by a million pinpoints of light - you can see, and as your vision begins to adjust to being used for the first time, you gaze down at the stuff around you, and in it you see ... something. You jump out of - something new, fear - and the thing jumps as well.

You watch it carefully, but after a long staring contest and a few tentative motions, your mind rapidly clicks into place this new concept - it is you.

You are a small, white creature with beady black eyes and nubby legs. Your skin is smooth and featureless. Your head is nearly part of your body, as you have a very short neck. You look around, and you can see that you are in a pool of water in a dimly lit cave; there are some different things scattered around the cavern, as well as some sort of green stuff coming through a hole in the ceiling, which is the source of light. The green stuff both hangs down near the center of the pool of water and climbs down one wall of rock.

You are alive, and you are aware.

As you gaze around and try to decide what you should do now, you feel as though something is missing. Do you feel that there is something missing in your mind, body, or emotions?

Something is missing in our emotion. Also, attempt to use our newfound power of locomotion to move to the green hanging stuff.

As you slosh through the water, you decide that something is missing in your emotion. The sensations you have felt so far were wonderous experiences, but you are aware that there must be more. In thinking so, you awaken a new one - sadness. You are sad that you do not feel more, and you wish to experience more of this internal turmoil of 'emotion.'

As you come into awareness of this 'lack' in your life, something happens. For a brief moment, you feel much bigger than you actually are; you feel as though you fill the entire cave, or beyond. In a flash of cognizance, you are aware that you are not alone. There are many, many other things, things which are alive, and  they too have emotions, even if many of them are much more basic than your own. For a brief moment you are the locus of awareness of something much greater, and for that instant in time there is a hum of energy from your surroundings, all cascading into you.

Then, immediately after, it is gone, and in a daze you find you can't quite recollect the experience. However, you realize that hovering in front of you is a small, glowing yellow orb. In a fit of instinctive joy you swallow it, and you can feel it merging into your tiny body, waiting for ...

Well, something. You're not quite sure what it does. You have the feeling of someone who can't quite remember a word; this thing has power, but you aren't sure what. It feels like a part of you, but you don't quite know what to do with it. It feels like it could become more of a part of you, somehow.

As you ponder this strange event, you remember your goal. You attempt to move towards the hanging green stuff, but you can't quite make it. They reach into the water, but the pool seems to deepen in the center, and if you continue walking forward you simply dip deeper, as you find with a splash of fear and a quick skitter back out.

You take a moment to survey the cavern further. The greenery against the far wall is similar, but different to the green stuff in the middle. It is a brown long thing - a vine - with green flat things - leaves - on it. At this distance you can see small red things clustered under the leaves. The one in the center is completely green. Turning, you can see something white half-hidden under some rocks right at the water's edge, broken bits of something shiny and black in the area you first came from, and a patch of what seems to be loose, piled rubble not too far from the brown vines.

UNDERSTANDING: Walking in deep water does not work.

MYSTERY: You created and absorbed a yellow orb after contemplating your EMOTIONS.

We don't know what a cat is. So maybe.

Use our Sight look at water. Water usually is reflective. Maybe we can get a picture of ourself?

Are we a cat?

You do not know what you are, only that you are. You also do not know 'cat.' You know 'water,' 'leaf,' 'vine,' and 'rock.' This is the sum of your experiences thus far.

Use our Sight look at water. Water usually is reflective. Maybe we can get a picture of ourself?

From what you can see in your reflection, you are white, with black eyes. You have small legs in comparison to your body, a short neck, and are, in general, somewhat featureless. However, in re-examining yourself, you notice that the orb you swallowed seems to have affected you in some way. There is a small, golden dot in the middle of your somewhat flat forehead, now.

Go towards the other things that are alive. Maybe they will be our friends.

You aren't really sure how to get to the other living things. However, you understand the feeling; you want to be with other things that are alive. You become aware of the concept of being alone, and the spot on your forehead tingles in response to the sadness it brings you.

In an effort to figure out how to find other life, you splash your way over towards the edge and pull yourself out. You shiver, comprehending cold. While the cave itself isn't terribly cold, being in the cool water then getting out makes it feel like it is. You survey the area again, and the tingle in your forehead grows. Somehow, you become aware that you can sense what you are looking for - in the form of a great fear that isn't yours. It is a very short distance away, and you take a few tentative steps in its direction when you are surprised by a movement nearby.

You suddenly realise there is something trapped under the pile of rubble, and it is very afraid. You don't comprehend why, however, only that it is terrified.

How do you feel in response to the fear of another thing which is alive?

UNDERSTANDING: Alone. You understand that there are other creatures out there which are alive, and you realise that being apart from them is a unique sensation. You are not certain why you want to be around other creatures, but you do, for some reason. You feel as though there are many possibilities, there.

MYSTERY: What are you? You are you, but is there more to that?

Maybe the orb glows everytime we discover something, and it makes us feel the emoctions of the others?

How do you feel in response to the fear of another thing which is alive?

Very surprised. And a bit hurt.

Approach the frightened living thing. Seek to determine if it wants to be not frightened, and if so, if we can help.

Very surprised. And a bit hurt.

Approach the frightened living thing. Seek to determine if it wants to be not frightened, and if so, if we can help.

You approach the pile of rubble, and as you do the sensations grow ever stronger. Its panic slowly becomes your panic; you reach out and touch the rocks with a small paw - it appears you have paws, though they are very short and quite useless for anything but walking - and you experience something new. You do not comprehend precisely what it means. It is Deep-Fear, Dark-Fear. Alone-Fear. It is a fear that overshadows everything you have experienced so far, and it momentarily sends you skittering away.

However, something inside of you burns against this. Your forehead feels as though it could almost be hot to the touch as you force your way back to the pile. The overwhelming emotions make you desperate, and you begin to paw at the rocks - but futilely. They are too numerous, too big, and too heavy for your body. Your own fear grows, until it feels as though you're going to explode with the sensation.

Suddenly, something in you snaps, and you feel totally and entirely calm. Your vision is odd; it almost feels as though you are looking at yourself from outside of yourself. Time seems to slow down, and you become hyper aware of everything around you - the cracks on the rocks, the motes of dust stirred up by your frantic scrabbling, the droplets of water still drying on your smooth skin. You become aware that the spot on your forehead is glowing extremely brightly, and it feels as though it's spreading over your entire form.

In a that moment of severe duress, something in you changes. Your small body itself shifts; your paws lengthen, growing into longer, flexible yet hardened digits, and you feel agony - you comprehend pain as your muscles grow from nothing, knotting over your front legs and chest. Even as you still suffer this sudden growth, your body moves on its own, grabbing and clawing at the pile of rubble. This new ... form? ... makes it much easier to move the rocks, and in a matter of moments you have uncovered your 'prize.'

It is a small, white creature; its legs are nubby, and its body is smooth and nearly featureless. It is you ... no, that's wrong. Only you are you. It must be ... whatever you are? But it is bruised and battered, and you can see dark spots marring its body - a few of them are almost black and seeping some kind of liquid. In the center of its forehead is a small, blue dot.

You notice a new sensation emanating from it as you remove the remaining rocks gently off of it - Not-Fear. Not-Alone-Fear. Not-Dark-Fear.

You understand 'hope.'

But now, how will you react to this other-you?

Nuzzle it reassuringly and lick its wounds clean.
