5th Timber, 6
The battle is won, but this is only a sign of things to come. I designate
a grave for poor ïngiz and a barracks for our new squad. Aban Kosothetol will now
serve as militia commander.Obok may have gotten the kill, but it was Aban that
felled the beast and saved who knows how many lives.

Aban is given a squad to train as marksdwarves, Obok now leads the Auburn
Roads as militia commander, Aban Kosothetol is captain of the guard.

Iton Roldetherith takes the new position of broker.

13th Timber, 6
Kivish has made a mandate. A single quiver. This shouldn't be too difficult.

It is Stakud the butcher that buries poor ingiz in her chert coffin. We lack
a proper tomb or cemetary. This will need to be corrected.

21 Moonstone, 6

Unib Shemthusest is the next to be possessed! He waits in the gathering hall.
There must not be an appropriate workshop yet. He is skilled in leatherworking, so
possibly a leather works?

Sure enough, as soon as the workshop is built Unib takes off towards it.

We don’t have any leather. I order some of our animals slaughtered. We need
the materials, not only for Unib, but for Kivish's quiver. As soon as the yak bull is
slaughtered and the leather tanned Unib dashes away again, grabbing a mica boulder
from the storeroom. After he grabs bismuth bronze bars, then black bronze bars. What
is this? Whatever it is, all the items are in place. It is all I could hope for:
Gosmerimesh Romekthebil (UmbralSprinkle the Long Silkinesses), a water buffalo leather
amour! Worth 30120. It is covered in images of Kumil Rymelash in bismuth bronze, and
an image of the King of the escorted gate, King ïngiz Doctinebells, regarding his
coronation. Truly an artifact of legend.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm giving our military a thorough overhaul. We can't afford to be caught off
guard again. Proper barracks assignments, and a full regimen of crossbow training.
Shooting, to be sure. No more of this hammering business. Wooden crafts will have to
wait, we require ammunition en masse. There has also been a miscommunication regarding
the acquisition of items beyond the fortress walls. Thecitizens believe that we should
not touch outdoor objects, resulting in hunters leaving corpses where they fall to rot.
This has been corrected as well.

25th Opal, 6
This has been an astounding turn of events. Through polite discussion, Atir Pridesmith
has become our queen. What has happened to our king?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Atir Pridesmith. She lives here. This is now the centre seat of power for The Escorted Gate.

...Fuck.

That's . . . unexpected. It's too bad you weren't given an artifact furniture piece instead of that leather armor. The armor is pretty badass, but now that you're stuck with a queen to mollify it would be useful to have a easy way to boost room value.

Also, I noticed that Salmeuk happens to enjoy the company of chickens. If you ever happen to come upon a chicken, perhaps you could make it pet available.

Erith's office was a sad affair spotted with luxury. Stockpiles near the doors
held more masterful pieces of furniture, and the desk and chair he sat on were far from
shoddy, but the rough cuts of miner's picks still scored the walls, and boulders still
cluttered the floor. He pored over military records, new recruits mixed with rusty
veterans. And not enough weapons or armour to suit even half their number. He
twirled a moustache braid nervously. The trade caravan wouldn't arrive for almost another
year. If another cyclops, or Atîs forbid, something worse.
A knock on the door broke his thoughts. "Come in." he said curtly.
A fat dwarf entered cluching a leather bag, the white of her knuckles visible on
her tanned skin.
"Atír Pridesmith," Erith acknowledged. She'd arrived in Glazbeard in midsummer
of 5, and was one of the few migrants with military training, serving as miitia commander
during the fight with Litast. "I'm not going to like what's in that bag." said Erith. It
wasn't a question.
Atír emptied the bag onto his desk, the contents clattering before him.
"Ransackedmine has fallen. The king is dead."
Two halves of a granite crown lay before him, the dried blood turning the rock a
deep red.
Erith weighed them, his hands shaking. The crown was carved with crenelations and
once studded with spikes of diamond. All of The Escorted Gate has witnessed the coronation,
and now, barely six years later,he held the end of that reign in his hands. "What of his
heirs?"
"His wife Tiris is leading the militia of The Excavated Bodice with their daughter
of two years. It is a mere hillocks, there is no hope for it to be a mountainhome," said
Atír, pulling a chairfrom the stockpile. Her turquoise eyes pierced Erith's. "Without
Ransackedmine, a new mountainhome must be established, and there is only one suitable location.
   "Glazebeard."
She nodded, her voice grave. "We are the only remaining Fortress of The Escorted Gate.
Royalty must be established before word spreads and we are torn apart. We must choose now."
   "Who else knows?"
"You and I are the only ones in this fortress that know right now, but word will
spread quickly." She leaned forward. "The people trust you. You are the leader of the original seven.
Kivish may be mayor, but that position is elected based on his tongue, not his hands. King ïngiz
died in battle. If our royalty is seen as weak, we shall find enemies at our gates. You trusted me
When Litast Couragetimes was inside our walls. Trust me again with this."
Erith was silent as he processed the request. She had military experience and was damn good
with a hammer and furnace, and had held her composure figthing a cyclops without a weapon. She also
was well aware of the situation, and had come to him first. He could trust her for now.
"Very well, Queen Atír Pridesmith. We'll have some temporary quarters furnished for someone
of royal status, as well as a proper tomb. Will you require anything else?"
"Yes," the new monarch said, smiling with hard eyes. "I want a hammer."

25th Opal, 6
I've ordered a throne room, dining room, and bedroom. Next up is a proper tomb and mausoleum.
Masterwork furniture is going to be used, thankfully we have near-legendary workers to build it. Our
engravers will take longer to smooth the area, their skills have not had as much use of the miners,
however that changes now.

24th Opal, 7
The year is closing and work on the royal quarters has progressed significantly, but is lacking
the quality to make it worthy of royalty. I've ordered our finest statues added to the various rooms,
and as much as I enjoy the craftsdwarfship, I've directed Tobul away from barrels and bins to focus on
armour stands and cabinets.

1st Granite, 7
The throne room has finally reached Royal Quality, and more masterwork furniture is being produced rapidly
by Tobul. We shall be done before summer at this rate! All we need now is a suitable coffin. It's a pity we have no
one trained in metalsmithing, we could finally make use of that gold in the caverns...

A quick overview of our numbers. We're doing rather well, except for our wealth. Despite this we are the
mightiest fortress of  The Escorted Gate. I need a drink. A long drink.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

6th Granite, 7
The new Queen has joined the militia and begun sparring with the troops, alternating between a silver spear
and steel mace. We've just finished a superiorly crafted marble coffin, and she doesn't appear to want to occupy it
any time soon.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

16th Granite, 7
No sooner have I ordered Bomber to craft a steel warhammer then I get the news that Obok has been
the latest to undergo a posssession. While the amnesia will be unfortunate, we can hope that something
wonderful can be produced from this. He is skilled in wood cutting, so I an certain we shall have all he needs.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A masons workshop? What could this mean? He's grabbed chert from the immediate stockpile, but why a masons
 workshop?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two pieces of chert, some rough yellow jaspers, and still he searches...

17th Granite, 7
More migrants! We're running surplus of dwarven power right now and a lack of living space. These need to be
rectified at once.

Obok's grabbed some cherry wood logs as well. Another round for yellow jaspers and he begins building furiously.

Melbil, a high master bone carver, has been producing bolts and armour from the remains of the creatures we butchered
for leather. He's already produced masterpiece bolts and a masterpiece bone helm. If we can't make masses of metal armour,
we shall make do with hide and bone!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A chert millstone he calls "Necromorning". While we do lack a millstone, this is somewhat disappointing. It has
two images of Unbralsprinkle the Long Silkiness on it. I swear I've seen statues of this same being. Still, we may put this
to good use in time.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

4th Slate
Shem has grown attached to a bronze crossbow.

19th Slate, 7
Kivish has imposed an export ban on quivers. Our main export is crafts and statues, so this should be easy to fulfill.

1 Hematite
Summer has arrived. Our progress to the depths is slowed by caves, however we are still making progress and shall reach
solid ground soon. We have an excessive amount of jobless dwarves, an problem I an beginning to solve by rearranging and
allocating resources. Our defences are far too weak given our current position, and we shall rectify this in the coming
year. There are many dwarves still untrained in skills, with a very few elite dwarves producing most of the work. I am
beginning a new project in the depths to correct this.

I do not know if there will be a caravan this year. We must prepare for the worst.

We keep running out of barrels to store booze in. This lack of construction must be due to only one dedicated carpenter. This must
be corrected soon, however expansion takes tie for our miners to dig.

Kivish has been re-elected as mayor, and continues to remind me that he does not have a suitable office for someone of his station,
and he feels it degrading to have to manage affairs from the communal dining room. I assured him that it was a high priority, and
that I needed to free up some tasks so our master craftsdwarves could build stuiable furniture. He seemed satisfied with that.

A forgotten beast has appeared in the caverns! A giant scorpion covered in scales! I don't think it can reach us from where it is
now, but we'd best keep an eye on it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

On further inspection, it appears very badly damaged. What could have happened?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

19th Malachite, 7

Even more migrants. I barely even count them anymore. We're low on beds and living space, I'm going to have to find somewhere to
put them all. The haulers can't keep up with the production anymore, and everyone is hauling almost constantly. There must be a
more efficient way. Our current workshop system is inadequate for stone and wood.

18th Galena, 7

Another forgotten beast, this time a sauropod! This one is in the lower caverns, separate from Ana.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

1 Limestone, 7

Autumn has come, and with it the hopes of a caravan. Efforts are underway to streamline out hauling and stockpile system, and
furniture is being sorted by quality to properly equip the nobility. What feels like a little is becoming increasingly complex as we
go ever deeper. The central spiral staircase is proving to be a huge time killer, so I am ordering access shafts added for swifter
transport.

11 Limestone, 7

   The miners have struck tanzanite!

14th Limestone, 7

A caravan from Ninurinod has arrived, bringing a sworddwarf Shem Unibarel, the outpost liason. I am very grateful for the
opportunity to trade. Kivish meets with the liason to discuss trade. We're ordering metals, seeds, weapons, cloths, among other
useful goods.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
In exchange, they're looking for large gems, leather, footwear, fish, among other things.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
They've brought a lot, more than we can trade for. We've produced far fewer crafts than I had hoped. We'll need to streamline
this process as well.

14th Sandstone, 7

The caravan is leaving, and the miners have bypassed the caverns to go ever deeper.

21 Sandstone, 7

Yet more migrants. We need to build more, dig more.

17th Timber, 7

The day to day tedium is getting to my nerves. I find myself drinking more and more each day.

1 Moonstone, 7

We have nearly reached the final depths as winter descends upon us.

2 Moonstone, 7

Kivish has been taken by a fey mood! What could they want to make? He seized the leatherworks...
