Ever since the mortal races of the world first learned to to band together, there have been those dark creatures who lurked in their shadows. They were walking dead, creatures who survived on the blood of the living. They differed in appearance, power and sensibility, but each shared the curse; the need to take the life essence of the living and continue their own survival. These creatures were called vampires and ever since their creation in the distant past, they have intervened in the lives of mortals...

In ages past the vampires of Tervon, a giant subcontinent of a much larger landmass, were creatures of little power. Their little Orders and Covenant scattered throughout the nations were little more than pests, barely sustaining their members on the blood of a few hapless victims or even worse, cattle. In many realms, vampires had not been sighted for countless centuries and their names only used in stories told by mothers and elders to the children. Some vampires had even surrendered themselves to the mortals, giving up their unlife for the embrace of true death. If events had continued as they did, the vampires of Tervon would be extinct and nothing more than a bad memory of a dark age...

But fate had other plans. The Disciples of Carlsson, lead by their founder Tetras Carlsson, saw what would occur if no one stopped the decline of the vampiric peoples of Tervon: chaos and anarchy amongst the mortal civilisations. They knew in their silent hearts that if vampires were allowed to go extinct, humanity and the other races would eventually follow. Knowing this, Tetras and his followers leapt into the dark and embraced undeath. With stolen blood flowing through their veins, they soon reinvigorated the vampiric political entities, their institutions and a number of ancient elders. In a period of 200 years, much of western Tervon were now once again awash with the scent of blood in the night air and the footsteps of the dead in the courts of men.

Though Carlsson was responsible for this, many saw him as an upstart neophyte, little more than a mortal who did not understand what it meant to be a true vampire. As such, they raised their own Orders and Covenants from stagnancy or created new ones to fit the times. They would not bow down to a thinblood thrall who called himself the 'High Hierophant' or his idiotic minions. And so, the Great Game rose once more.

It is the year 1127 ER and 143 years since Carlsson's dark birth. The major Covenants and Orders are at a tentative peace and have organised a joint colonisation of the Eastern March, the last hint of Tervnonese civilisation before the Steppes where barbarians lie. Vampires have been sent, each sponsored by a Covenant for one reason or another. Though all have the mission of turning the March over to vampiric influence, all have been told in secret to further the goals of their Covenants....

In Vampire: Princes of the Eastern March, each player has been assigned by their superiors to expand their influence within the Eastern March or die trying. How they do this is entirely up to them. Still interested? Time to read the rules.

Spoiler: Turns and Actions (click to show/hide)

Each turn takes up a month of in-game time and as such, all actions must be performed within these limits. All actions are tested for success via a 1d20. Characters may receive positive or negative modifiers depending on the situation and the attributes of the character. The results for each result is as below:
<1: So Bad Its Good. You utterly fail your action in such a way that you achieve success in something else.
1-3: Critical Failure. You utterly fail your action.
4-6: Pure Failure. You fail your action.
7-9: Failure. You fail most of your action but are able to achieve a part of it.
10-14: Success. You barely succeed.
15-17: Good Success. You succeed.
18-20: Critical Success. You succeed and acquire bonuses for doing so.
>20: Critical Success.

In cases however where characters are using their skills on other characters, both simply roll a 1d20 and apply modifiers, with the highest number succeeding. These are referred to as Opposed Tests. Differences between the two can lead to different effects:
1-10: Success.
6-15: Good Success
16-20: Critical Success

Each player may take an unlimited amount of actions per turn, but if these actions overwork the character, maluses will be applied. An example would be attempting to befriend the local count, running a successful inn, investigating a werewolf infestation and buying a city block. Befriending the local count and running an inn while also chatting up customers on the other hand would not overwork your character.

While most vampires would prefer not to get into a physical fight, at times it is necessary or even preferable. Combat takes place within Rounds, with most characters being limited to 1 action per Round. Vampires, being naturally quicker, have 2. Success or failure is determined via Opposed Tests. Should a weapon strike, a random amount of damage (the weapons function on a dice system) will be inflicted, plus any modifiers. These can be reduced via armor, either literal or metaphorical. Once the HP of a character reaches 0, he or she is dead. As vampires however, death is rarely final.

Supplementary Rules

Armour/Mobility: Increased Armour generally results in decreased Mobility. Mobility by itself is not a stat or attribute, merely that it acts as a modifier to certain actions. Stealthy actions, dodging and running [when used as an opposed roll] are all negatively modified by Armour. These modifiers only affect characters in increments of 5. I.e, an Armour rating of 5 will result in a -1 malus, 10 will result in a -2, 15 will result in -3 and so on.
Cover: While not  as useful in a pre-gunpowder era, cover is useful in protecting against projectiles. A character can be in Full or Partial Cover. In Full Cover, projectiles cannot damage the character unless they penetrate whatever is providing Cover. Partial Cover results in a -2 damage modifier.
Weapon Modifiers: while the baseline material is iron, other materials can change aspects of the weapon.

• Steel: adds 2 to each weapon roll. I.e, 1d10 becomes 1d12.
• Silver: effective against werewolves.

The Haven is the lair of a vampire(s) where they rest during the day as well as store their objects of power. While any location can be chosen, making one is difficult as it involves a month long rituals as well as significant resources. Havens cannot be entered by anyone besides the resident vampire(s) or their thralls unless its protective wards are removed. The resident vampire(s) regenerate health much faster while in the Haven and their desire for blood is lessened greatly.

Dominions are the official and unofficial territories owned by each vampire. This can include streets, buildings, rooms, parks, forests, jail cells or even very slow moving individuals. While some may offer no direct advantages, Dominions are legally seen as the owner's and uninvited vampires can be rightfully killed by the owner. Tenant vampires may also choose to swear service or pay 'taxes' to the owner. What these taxes are depend on the owner.

Certain characters may have the ability to perform feats or actions that others simply cannot. Examples include casting spells and shapeshifting.

Enthrallment: All player vampires are capable of forcing mortals into their servitude. The mortal must simply consume 3 Blood Points from the Vampire. This will only be successful if the mortal does not resist the enthrallment process that follows, which changes their organic chemistry. As such, mortals who accidentally drink vampire blood will not be enthralled.

Vampiric Weakness (Sun): Vittar Vampires will die if exposed to the sun. While able to survive the rise and setting of the sun with major injuries, vampires will automatically crumble to dust should they be exposed for too long.

Vittar Bloodline

The major Covenants of Tervon are all descended from the Vittar Bloodline of vampires. While in distant centuries the Covenants were united, political fragmentation has seen the Covenants wander off to pursue their own goals. Regardless, each of the Covenants share the same Bloodline Traits. These are thus shared by all player vampires. They include a terrible weakness to the sun, quick reflexes, the ability to enthrall mortals and of course, ageless immortality. In other respects, covenants may differ...

Major Covenants


These Covenants are the most influential amongst the Tervonian vampires and have the resources to back most claims. Vampires of these Covenants can expect to have access to a vast network of contacts and supplies...if they weren't stuck in the East March. Still, the connections of these vampires are never to be underestimated.

The Disciples of Carlsson

A relatively young Covenant, the Disciples are led by their founder Tetras Carlsson and much of their leadership is still composed of his initial followers. Arranged into a hierarchical clergy, the Disciples are a deeply pious and scholarly organisation. Through their contact with the gods as well as their knowledge of ancient tomes, the Disciples have brought vampire society kicking and screaming into modernity. They intrinsically believe that vampire rule of society is necessary to prevent the death of the world. Despite this, the  Disciples are seen as children, not helped by the fact that nearly all members are younger than 200. Disciples have a deeper knowledge of the gods and histories but are usually weaker than their older brethren.

The Praetorian Guard

Ancient in both history and membership, the Guard are composed of nobility and those in high positions of society. Having their origins as the Vittar Emperor's personal guard, their history is awash with games of intrigue as well as chronicles of battle. Their members are few and often see the younger vampires as barely vampiric at all. Despite their stubbornness and arrogance, the Guard are seen as honourble and usually true to their word...except when they're not, of course. The Guard have at their possession ancient artifacts of power as well as contacts with the nobility. However, members of the Guard also require a far larger amount of blood than other covenants to survive.

The Honourble Guild of Bakers

The Guild is a colossal organisation of vampires which maintains connections all throughout Tervon and beyond. From their headquarters at Hemburg, the Guild organises and influences various criminal rings throughout the cities of the subcontinent. While ostensibly vampiric, the Guild also operates a range of brothels, inns, casinos and bakeries throughout Tervon as front agencies manned by mortals. Great in number and having a vast intelligence network, the Guild is a major powerplayer in vampiric politics but rarely seem to have any goal save that of profit. Guildsmen heading to the East will have with them an entourage of spies to serve them, if a horribly reputation with everyone else. Bakers suffer from an inherent shady appearance, although they seem to have excellent persuasion skills with mortals.

The Alliance of Sorcerers

Nearly all societies of note have a coven of mages and the Vittar Bloodline are no different. Though each sorcerer may hail from a different land and culture, each are united by the acceptance of the First Precept: magic is powerful when well taught and trained. As such, the Sorcerers isolate themselves from the world and spend much of their unlives taking control of magic and learning ancient spells. Though wanes in the Winds of Magic has seen their influence weaken, the Sorcerers are never to be underestimated. Despite increasingly large costs to continue casting their spells, the Sorcerers are adamant in their ancient art of spellcraft and are unlikely to change anytime soon. Characters belonging to this Covenant are likely to have many spells, tomes and familiars at their disposal. They however, are utterly horrible with people due to their long years of isolation and are often terribly blunt.

Minor Covenants

Besides the Major Covenants, a myriad of lesser Covenants call Tervon home. While they lack the vast resources of the greater Covenants, these organisations are often specialised in their skills to such a degree that they can easily outmatch outsiders. Players of a Minor Covenant do not start with as many Assets but are able to tap into greater powers of their Covenant.

Heirs to the Throne


Insane, mad, eccentric, unholy and extremely powerful are terms that all apply to the Heirs. They seek to ascend from mere vampirism and become Liches, semi-mythical undead creatures who can survive without blood or nourishment. Of course, all manuscripts that seem to describe the process of ascension drive the users insane, usually violently. The few functional insane ensure that all tomes leading up to ascension are kept by the Heirs. Members of this Covenant are insane but usually have great command over necromancy.

Order of the Sun


The result of embracing a band of knights, the Order of the Sun is dedicated to obtaining glory and their knightly pledges. Though no longer subservient to any mortal lord, the Order is often in the company of mortals, often without the mortals knowing that the holy knights that just saved them from a vampire were vampires themselves. Most vampires find the Order intolerable and are often at war with them. A few rambling Heirs are known to call them 'teamkillers'. Characters of this covenant have everything a knight would usually have, as well as great combat skill. Outside of combat, members of the Order are little more than average.

The Morganian Sisterhood

Composed of only women or women-in-spirit, the Sisters hail from the rocky isles of Arath to the north of Tervon. Mysterious in outlook and goals, they are often distant and cold to outsiders. What is known however is that the Sisters are well skilled in speaking to their pagan spirits.

Iron Lords

The core of the Iron Lords are dwarven in origin, although their centuries on the Tervon mainland has resulted in many human recruits. The Iron Lords are oddly open and honest vampires, often consuming as much alcohol as they did in life, often with some blood brewed into the concoction. With their double curse of needing both alcohol and blood to survive, the Lords often ensure that both are in frequent supply and abhor the prohibition and abstinence that is often enforced by the Disciples. Even human recruits seem to be affected the dwarven dependency on alcohol. This said, they are great metalsmiths with their works prized by many. Their greatest secret, more 'secret' than secret, is their creation of golems. Automatons of metal given life by obscure ritual, the Lords have grown rich from their production of golems, especially the gargoyles which are so ubiquitous in vampire society. Lords heading East may find their skills in high demand...

Brothers of the Claw

Where most vampires embrace civilisation, the Brothers embrace nature. Few are found anywhere near the cities, and even fewer are found working with other vampires. Most prefer running in the wilds beyond the cities, hunting and foraging. They have the unique ability to shapeshift into predatory animals, usually bears or tigers.

Seekers of the Dark

Before the Disciples discovered vampiric society, the Seekers had been the go-to organisation for contact with the divine...or demonic. They are occultists, ritualistic and practice a religion that outsiders are not privy to, with only the higher-ranking members even knowing the full details of the faith. Despite losing ground to the Disciples, the Seekers are still relatively powerful. Members of the organisation are usually excellent summoners of the supernatural and can contact the divine.

Courtiers

Less of a covenant and more a network of foppish vampires, the Courtiers are those vampires who inhabit human courts, sufficing on whatever blood and influence they can get from their chosen patron. Weak in combat, the Courtiers dedicate their lives to kissing-up to whatever authority figure they can find and draining them of every little ounce of comfort they can. The actual influence of a Courtier can vary, with some being major players in the Great Game while others are merely along for the ride.

Esoterics of the Cloud

Only a handful of vampires subscribe to this covenant, due to the harsh training regimen required to become a member proper as well as the debilitating consequences of joining. Weak, near-paralysed and unable to care for themselves, the Esoterics have all but sacrificed their lives for the singular goal of divination. Through their training, members of the covenant are able to predict the future to a degree and with some errors. Still, an Esoteric is a powerful member of any vampire's retinue...if difficult to trust.

While not everyone needs to read this, the below are the bare basics of the setting.

Magic
In the past, the Winds of Magic was far more powerful. Old beings can remember the days when one could conjure fire with but a thought. In the modern age, all magics require some form of ritual and reagents, with greater spells requiring yet more elaborate ceremonies and rarer ingredients. As such, most magic-heavy technologies have simply become obsolete, resulting in a Dark Age some time ago.

The Vittar Empire
Before the weakening of magic, the Vittar Empire ruled Tervon and beyond. Its soldiers were the best in the world and its craft without equal. Unfortunately, the very foundations of their society was based on the use of magic and when that weakened, the Empire began to crumble. Its last emperor, Cornelius XXIII, attempted to stop the dissolution of his empire by ascending to lichdom. Unfortunately, perhaps due to some mistake or mishap, his apotheosis resulted in his insanity and an impenetrable magical wall around the imperial capital of Vit. His empire soon crumbled, with its great capital blocked off from the rest of the world. Though few are aware of the Vittar, beyond a few ruins here and there, theirinfluence can still be seen in the world. The Imperial Calender is still in use and years are still tracked by an Emperor's Reign (ER), with the current year being 1127.

Other Bloodlines
Though the Vittar Bloodline is the most common in Tervon, others exist with different attributes. Some are hostile while others are friendly.

The Fey Folk
The Fey are one of the greatest mysteries of the world and an innumerable amount of scholars have attempted to learn more about them. Tall, pale and possessing an otherworldly beauty, the Fey are rarely seen and their appearance is often an omen of bad news. Few verified facts are known of the Fey, the key facts being their weakness to iron and their sporadic Wild Hunts which see them drag many mortals to wherever it is Fey live. Though the Fey Folk proper are humanoid, tree-spirits and other odd creatures are also called Fey.

Dwarves
This short sturdy species of the human family hail from an archipelago to the northwest of Tervon. Having first arrived in the year 220ER, the Dwarves are very similar to their taller counterparts save for their need for alcohol. Without it, a Dwarf will soon fall into melancholy and die of depression. Dwarves, though still a minority, are accepted members of human society and interbreeding is common. It was the dwarves who introduced the idea of knight-errants (adventurers) to Tervon and many have at least a pint of dwarven blood in them.

Werewolves
The other major supernatural creatures of Tervon. Where the vampires patronise civilisation, Werewolves prefer the wilds. The meetings between the two is often deadly to everyone in the nearby area.

Dialberie
All vampires require blood but few dare to take the blood of another vampire mainly due to age-old taboo against doing so. Those few who feed on their kin say that vampiric blood has a greater flavour than mortals and keeps the bloodlust away for longer...

Amaranth
...Some also say that sucking a vampire dry will not only kill them but also devour the soul of the hapless victim. Of course, no one has tried this in recent memory surely...

The Dark Gift
Being bitten by a vampire is not sufficient to join the ranks of the Dead. The Vittar Bloodline only grows by draining a mortal of its blood and infusing the fresh corpse with the blood of the sire.

Vampiric Ranks
Vampiric society is nearly without exception oligarchic in outlook and gerontocratic in practice. Older vampires simply exert more influence than younger vampires due to greater Dominions, Assets and supposed wisdom. This is not to say that a younger vampire cannot beat an older vampire, only that doing so is difficult without planning. Regardless, informal age ranks are permeated throughout vampire society. In general they can be divided into the following:

• Fledgling: newly embraced vampires, these are usually the lowest amongst the vampires, having only earned their dark gift within the last decade.
• Neophyte: a young vampire of around 10-100 years, neophytes are seen as footsoldiers and messengers, acting as the servants and apprentices to older vampires.
• Embraced: a term technically applying to all vampires, Embraced also refers to any vampire at least a century old. They are usually the majority of any given vampire community.
• Elder: Leaders amongst vampires, these beings are often extremely powerful due or extremely quiet due to the decision to sleep out eternity.
• Ancient: Truly old entities, these were the first of the vampires. It is generally accepted by most vampires that Ancients might not even exist and if they did they ensure that no one can detect their actions.

Donnchadh MacSeoin (Sl4cker)
Appearance: Donnchadh(Or, translated to modern English, Duncan) is a rather unorthodox vampire, even by the standards of The Alliance of Sorcerers. He is 5'9, blond haired with a sharp-eyed, thin face, and very usually wears a black cloak, with yellow trims and runes both ornamental and practical, with grey clothes under. In one pocket, he carries a thick tome of spells, a staple for a member of the AoS. In the other, he carries a small but thick glass disc he uses to see an object as closer than it actually is. On his back he carries a sort of strange spear-like device, where instead of where a metal head should be, attached to a wooden pole is an equally wooden hollow cylinder. It has an opening on top that was occupied by a metallic dart when fully loaded. Upon activation, the strange 'Flamespear' as he calls it fires the dart forwards upon a pillar of fire. He also carries a small knife around, more suited to rituals than fighting, for in case he misses.

Backstory: In reality, Duncan is more of a historian than a sorcerer. From is first days as but a fledgling he has been quite an introvert, even among the rest of his covenant. He has spent days in some library, reading of forgotten ages. However, when Carlsson and his followers first started his political frenzy, Duncan was inspired. All his life, he knew things that were already finished, things of which wouldn't of changed if he had existed or not. He had for his entire life as a vampire known only the past, but the Disciples were showing him the present. He had been shown how to innovate. Thus, he spent time not in some dusty library, but a lab. Taking inspiration from his books, Duncan had technically successfully recreated mythical things; magical orbs, things that allowed one to view the sublime as if looking through a window, flaming weapons that set alight whoever crossed their owner's path, and many more creations that were...  unsuccessful. This is the Duncan we know today; the one who packed his most important things and set off to strange new lands, in more ways than one.

Claim to Fame: His usually unorthodox contraptions and trinkets have netted him a rather well-known reputation. Seen as an embodiment of the new, his superiors have decided it would be most fitting that an innovator such as him would lay claim to strange lands, alongside his strange inventions.

François Du Gris (Spiderking50)
Appearance: François is one of the few grey vampires. His skin is the color of stone. His eyes are like the morning fog above a bloody battlefield. He dresses as the living do (will update this when I know more of the culture). One would think he is a minor aristocrat. His clothes are almost always dark grey with sanguine accents. François is not as gaunt as many of his whiter brethren, but still quite thin by living standards. Many of his kin believe this to be because he is a young vampire, others believe it has to do with his strange origins, but they are both wrong. François is quite old, but while many withered away, he stayed well fed. He has the look of a true vampire: a hunter.
Backstory: François is an enigma. Some remember him from centuries long past. They remember François when he was a blanc. He was a gifted hunter and would never go thirsty. His brethren warned him that if he did not stop feeding so often, the living would become frantic. Then he and the rest of the Red Leech disappeared. Now he has returned from the dead as a Gris.

Claim to Fame: François was elected to attend this rendez-vous. The other Gris seem to revere François, but also tread lightly around him. Mostly this comes off as them being respectful.

Mardak Riltierd (Tomcost)
Appearance: a short, thin man, with the appearance of a man in his late forties. He uses a trimmed beard and moustache, and appears to be looking elsewhere, never making eye contact, even when speaking to those who are directly in front of him.

Backstory: Mardak was a sorcerer apprentice, a mediocre one at that. He had reached the position due to the favorable place of his parents among low-ranked noblemen, and his obsessive curiosity, which was his only trait that could be called more or less positive. Mardak's meeting with the vampire folk was... unusual, at best. He witnessed the abduction of a lowly noble by a group of vampires, a fact totally unbeknownst to him by that time. He followed the abductors until he lost them, but kept investigating afterwards, without much success. Eventually, he found the now-turned nobleman, and, perplexed, he confronted him. It was almost a public embarrassment, hadn't the noble managed to evade most of his questions with some degree of skill. Still, young Mardak was not satisfied, and futilely pursued more answers on the following days. Eventually, the nobleman moved away from the city, but apparently spoke about Mardak to his partners. Not achieving much, Mardak continued his studies, eventually becoming a fully trained, yet still mediocre sorcerer. It was because of his obsessive nature, not his skills with magic, that eventually he was abducted by some members of the alliance of sorcerers. Having found what was really happening, he gleefully accepted the gift of immortality. Unfortunately for him, his lack of skills made him get shunned by most sorcerers of the covenant. As such, he came to the Seekers, where he felt at home, studying the hidden dark arts, and becoming, this time, a competent summoner of the dark things from beyond.

Claim to Fame: to increase the dominion, and hopefully the available sacrifices for the covenant.
Rupert Reiher (Taricus)
Appearance: Standing around an impressive 180 cms with ebon hair and stark sapphire eyes, rupert cuts an impressive figure between his build and youthful look. Typically clothed in unassuming garb only his size tends to bring about attention.

Background/Description: Rupert's history is long, as befitting a member of the praetorians. Firmly prominent as one of the better examples of the guard's martial ability, rupert has fought on countless of battlefields for far longer than anyone can count, and done so from the frontlines of such. Many tales abound of a peerless warrior over the ages that single-handedly wiped out entire warbands, companies and parties of warriors without ever seemingly sustaining injury.

Of course, while an able fighter, Rupert has no tolerance for intrigues and typically remains aloof in regards to such matters preferring merely to let his abilities talk. Rupert has, however, occasionally acted as a tool or enforcer in a plot. This is mostly out of part of pragmatism given that he usually offers his services to the controller of a dominion in exchange for being allowed access to such, typically staying a few months before moving on.

Two things Rupert commits to which set him apart from his peers however. Firstly is a respect for the order of the sun, given that if he was younger, he'd likely been part of that covenant himself. The other, is a little more drastic; Rupert's feeds solely on bandits, raiders and other criminals. This is some borne from pragmatism, as no-one typically cares about a murderer in a dungeon suddenly turning up dead, or the drained bodies of brigands lying next to the roads.

Claim to Fame: In part via him volunteering, and most of the others preferring not to be parted from their current dominions. Rupert himself, whilst skilled, held little in regards to dominions back west.

Vayne, the Crowmother (Vacio)
Appearance: Raven black hair, pale white skin, 5'10", 61kg, silver eyes, with narrow pupils like a cat.

Backstory:
 
Vayne, has long wished for achieving Lichdom just like many of the Heirs of the Throne, she has read ancient tome after ancient tome in attempt to discover any fact about liches and the process to become one. However her reason is slightly different from others whom just want immortality or untold power, she believes become a lich will bring herself close to her God, Death. Even when Vayne was alive she had a fascination with death, she often killed small bugs or animals, and it wasn’t long that with her fascination with death that she eventually learned of the existence of a creature of the dead, a vampire. And several months later she read the tale of how a necromancer had transform himself into a Vampire through a dark ritual on the night of a new moon. So she made preparations for the ritual, drawing of magical circles, memorizing the incantation used in the legend. Then it came the night of the new moon, she began the incantation, made the necessary human sacrifices (she had given them are large amount of booze the night before,and dragged them to the forest), however despite her mimicking the ritual exactly the ritual seemed to have no effect. Then suddenly her heart started to hurt, her body became cold as ice, her legs gave out, Vayne collapse onto the floor, losing consciousness she saw something, a figure in a black hood robe approach her before everything went black. She awoke the next night with a thirst, she found herself drawn to blood she had used for the ritual and began to drink the small puddles of blood that had yet to dry. The blood invigorated her, she had never felt this way before, but that is when it started. A whisper from behind, suddenly turning to check what was there but only the dead bodies of those she had sacrificed laid, she could swear she heard them say something.

It was through this vampire she learned of the Heirs of the Throne, and their eccentric minds similar to her own. Over the decades she learned more of her kind, and even earned the nickname Crowsmother as for wherever she went the crows would soon follow.

Claim to Fame: One of the influential Elder Vampires of the Heir of the Throne, during one of his mad visions, he had a moment of clarity and foresaw Vayne traveling east in her search, and appeared to have the Artifact in her hands but as Vayne was about to do something the vision ended. So the Elder used his influence to have her to travel eastward in order to figure out, what was the rest of the vision. Vayne does not know the reason why she was sent east, only told that it holds answers.

Virgil Torelli (Andres)
Appearance: Brown eyes, brown hair, a bit above average height, muscular but otherwise normal build.

Backstory:  Virgil basically grew up in the underworld alongside his best friend Roger. As children, they relied mostly on burglary and mugging, and as they grew older they took on jobs from people as intimidators and even hired murderers. When they hit what they considered to be the primes of their lives, they became vampires so they can maintain their youth and strength forever, after which they promptly assassinated and disposed of their sire. For two decades, they became better and better assassins as there was rarely a shortage of people wanting other people dead. Seeing as there was no covenant based on assassination (or at least none that they knew of), they decided to found their own covenant.

Claim to Fame: Is travelling with Roger to the East to entrench his new covenant's position as an important power while there's still no competitors.

Unfocused Scry Orb: In the days of magic, the arts of divination and scrying were crucial components of any war or game of intrigue. Though most scry orbs have been lost to the annals of history, MacSeoin has successfully been able to create one of his own. Weaker and unable to project far into the future, the Scry Orb is able to see potential events that may occur in a month's time, but only in the surrounding area and even then, only after hours of careful observation.[The Orb may only be used once every three months.]

Flamespear: While myths from the far south speak of miraculous weapons called flamelances, the flamespear crafted by MacSeoin is no legend. A very mundane if innovative weapon, its only supernatural attribute is the sudden immolation of its fired projectiles, and even that could be replicated with the right materials. The weapon gives its bearer a very potent ranged fire weapon, a useful threat against fellow vampires and mortals alike.

Focusing Lens: Less of an artifact and more a useful trinket, these Lens allow you a clearer picture of far-off happenings.

Mortal Apprentice: A young human, your superiors have assigned an aspiring sorcerer to your service. He clearly lacks the rigours for promotion, but he can still be very useful. As an apprentice, he has knowledge on reagents and can help with preparing spells and rituals.

Tinkerer (Intermediate): MacSeoin strives to innovate rather than rely on old technologies and customs. Leave him with a few spare parts and some reagents and he could probably put together a comm array...one with a great deal of static and will likely fall apart after a week, but a comm.array nonetheless. Flaw (Social Isolation): Most senior members of the Alliance of Sorcerers are shut-ins meeting rarely and usually communicating via magical artifacts or messengers. Though most are at ease with fellow Sorcerers, many have difficulties speaking with outsiders. They're either too stupid, too stubborn or simply too incompetent to understand why the Sorcerer is right. [Confers +2 to actions relating to persuasion. The Silver Chalice: What this drinking vessel does is a secret Francois will probably bring to the grave. Not that its very powerful by itself or very useful to anyone else save for sentimental reasons. Used to induct vampires into the Brouillard Gris. Can generate silver blood.

Assets:
Aspirant: An aspirant is a common term referring to mortals on the path to vampirism. Though not rare, many are ignored outright for lacking certain criteria and those who are eventually embraced usually have some skill useful to their sire or covenant. The mysterious Brouillard Gris would be amongst the last covenants any mortal would desire to join, simply because nearly no one knows of them. That Francois has one at his service is a feat unto itself and the mortal probably has a great story to tell. This aspirant seems to have great knowledge on history, especially on the Vittar Empire. Aspirants can be used for nearly everything but it is recommended to keep them alive as they can be later turned into strong vampires. The more experience an aspirant has before being Embraced, the stronger the resulting vampire.
Smuggler: A supplier of illegal goods (rare reagents, souls and narcotics), the smuggler has spent decades trafficking his merchandise throughout the Mezev Tsardom and now the Eastern March. Though he has lost his network of contacts, he is very much willing to aid you and your cause...as long as you can pay, of course.
Hedgewitch: Hedgewitches are usually the first and often only provider of magical services a peasant will ever know. In truth, much of witchery is little more than superstition and mundane herbalsim. Some witches however retain the abilities associated with the more academic sorcerors, if somewhat twisted to suit their local cultures. Rather than making use of the elements, most witchery instead works with boons and hexes, which are often associated with ritualism. How exactly witches are able to use hexes without ritual is a secret most scholars discuss even to this day. Regardless, this witch will offer her services to you, as agreed previously.

Silverblood: The blood of any Brouillard Gris vampire has a high silver composition, which while making them walking ore veins, also prevents most werewolves from getting anywhere near him.

Fey-Touched Blade: The Fey are a mysterious people but extremely powerful. Gifted by a Praetorian Prince sometime ago, this bronze blade is not only equal to steel, but capable of great magics. In battle, Ruper feels and acts faster, acting far too fast for a man, even one with the Dark Gift. Furthermore, in places of high Fey influence, the Blade seems to speak to its owner, whispering songs and hints of knowledge that range from the cryptically nonsesnsical to undeniable fact. [The holder of this weapon receives an extra action every round.]

Assets:
Minder: The Praetorian Guard know very well that the Stipator known as Ruper Reiher works alone and can be trusted not to cause trouble. Not wanting to damage their colonisation effort however, they have sent a trusted Minder to ensure Reiher's activities do not cause too much fallout. Should Reigher cause any panic, the Minder will attempt to stop the panic, usually by burying it in gossip and bribes.

Intrinsics:
Flaw (Great Thirst): though all vampires desire blood, members of the Guard require nearly double the amount of others to quench their thirst.
Work Experience: never a man of great intrigue, Ruper has nonetheless acted as a protector to many a vampire, or even as a willing pawn. For his lack of great ambition, notable vampires often trust Reiher far more than they would others. Some not only welcome him into their dominion, but offer him a job for a time. Roger Urien: Virgil's acomplice, Roger acts as the brains of the duo. It is he who ensures that the two-man Black Knife covenant receives contracts, has contacts and has enough equipment for Virgilt to carry out the job. Though out of practice, Roger still knows his way around the shadows.
Forged Documents: You and Roger were never chosen for the expedition; Roger simply fabricated a few documents and joined the rest of the colonisers on their way to the March. You naturally have no pressure from the West nor any real support. If it were however discovered that a non-compliant covenant had infiltrated the expedition, it is unlikely any members would survive. [DO NOT LOSE THESE]

Stealth (Expert): You know your way around the shadows and sneaking quietly through dark streets and lit rooms alike. [Confers +3 to stealth actions]
Third Eye: Through some dabbling with a stolen artifact, Virgil and Roger are capable of using the Third Eye. When in use, they lose all senses save that of sight and are able to detect sapients within a 50m radius around them. Even emotions can be detected this way, with 'hostile' and 'friendly' individuals appearing differently from the common men.
Flaw (Fledgling): Though by mortal standards Virgil would be nearing his death, vampires see Virgil as nothing more than a Fledgling; barely a vampire. That he is not part of any coveneant of renown but one of his owm making further harms his reputation. No respectable member of vampiric society will make any obvious business with him,and it is very likely that his sire has been punished or is after Roger and Virgil him/herself. Death Mask of Emperor Cattus: a very ornate death mask of the 15th Vittar emperor, it has little observable power save for the fact that wearing it gives the wearer a vision of a garguantian castle being sieged by a horde of horsemen.

Servitor Clerks: skeleton constructs with limited independence, Servitors serve a vital position in Tervon as recorders, scribes and draftsmen. By tampering with components of the soul, necromancers are able to mimick brain functions, allowing these automatons to remember information and carry out orders. With some modifications, these servitors could be put to other tasks. [Vayne currently has three servitor clerks.]
Corpses: Corpses are an all-important commodity in Tervon, especially to an Heiress. Vayne currently has [6 well-preserved if not fresh corpses.]

Necromancy (Expert): Whereas the other magical arts have weakened throughout the ages, Necromancy remains as strong as it ever was, perhaps due to its non-reliance on the Winds of Magic. Rather, Necromancy works by tampering with the souls of the living and maintaining the corpses in which these souls are entrapped. Whereas occultism is forbidden in mortal society and sorcery well-respected, necromancy occupies the distinction of being hated and yet a necessary part of society. Bonegolems and Servitors are incredibly important in maintaining old Vittar infrastructure as well as performing tasks undesirable to others. That said, very few people would ever agree to being raised by a necromancer and thus most subjects are stolen from graves or battlefields or originate from prisons.[Confers +3 to necromancy rolls as well as knowledge on necromantic techniques and practices.]

Appearance:

A skeletal man with pale skin stretched taut all around him. His vacant stare and hollow smile suggest rigor mortis in his face. His eyes are cloudy, so much so it seems he lacks pupils. The only thing he wears, opposed to the flamboyant dresses of nobles or the billowing robes of sorcerers, is a long, black robe, tattered and faded.

Covenant: Heirs to the Throne
Backstory:

He broke the taboo of drinking vampire blood once, off the floor, on his knees, drinking it pathetically when he was but a fledgling vampire. His addiction to forbidden blood is what drove him away from others of his kind, yet some took him in. Necromancers, they were called, artists of bone, sculptors of flesh, masters of death. Mors quickly excelled at the craft of necromancy and rose through the ranks.

Traitor and freak to the vampire majority, brilliant mind to the vampire minority. His craving for vampire blood grows with each step towards the Eastern March.

Claim to Fame: To go and do tests and experiments, far, far away from prying eyes. Tests, particularly, on vampires.

Name: Donnchadh MacSeoin
Appearance: Donnchadh(Or, translated to modern English, Duncan) is a rather unorthodox vampire, even by the standards of The Alliance of Sorcerers. He is 5'9, blond haired with a sharp-eyed, thin face, and very usually wears a black cloak, with yellow trims and runes both ornamental and practical, with grey clothes under. In one pocket, he carries a thick tome of spells, a staple for a member of the AoS. In the other, he carries a small but thick glass disc he uses to see an object as closer than it actually is. On his back he carries a sort of strange spear-like device, where instead of where a metal head should be, attached to a wooden pole is an equally wooden hollow cylinder. It has an opening on top that was occupied by a metallic dart when fully loaded. Upon activation, the strange 'Flamespear' as he calls it fires the dart forwards upon a pillar of fire. He also carries a small knife around, more suited to rituals than fighting, for in case he misses.

Covenant: The Alliance of Sorcerers.

Backstory: In reality, Duncan is more of a historian than a sorcerer. From is first days as but a fledgling he has been quite an introvert, even among the rest of his covenant. He has spent days in some library, reading of forgotten ages. However, when Carlsson and his followers first started his political frenzy, Duncan was inspired. All his life, he knew things that were already finished, things of which wouldn't of changed if he had existed or not. He had for his entire life as a vampire known only the past, but the Disciples were showing him the present. He had been shown how to innovate. Thus, he spent time not in some dusty library, but a lab. Taking inspiration from his books, Duncan had technically successfully recreated mythical things; magical orbs, things that allowed one to view the sublime as if looking through a window, flaming weapons that set alight whoever crossed their owner's path, and many more creations that were...  unsuccessful. This is the Duncan we know today; the one who packed his most important things and set off to strange new lands, in more ways than one.

Claim to Fame: His usually unorthodox contraptions and trinkets have netted him a rather well-known reputation. Seen as an embodiment of the new, his superiors have decided it would be most fitting that an innovator such as him would lay claim to strange lands, alongside his strange inventions.
