The Icy Heart: A Succession Game
« on: August 16, 2007, 04:16:00 pm »

In 1051, towards the dawning of what we now know as the Golden Age of Dwarfkind, a party of seven dwarves, vagabonds and criminals all, was exiled to the bottom of the world to serve the Test of the Fortress. They were given a meager amount of supplies and set out for a mountain known as the Glacial Tower of Clashes. The exiles chose Clashes because of its known volcanic activity; the warmth in the mountain's glowing heart was their only chance of survival...

Requirements

1.) Turns last for one year, starting and ending on the first of Spring.

2.) Do not mine the adamantine, release the pit demons, or bridge the magma without a general consensus of the former rulers.

3.) Do not use cheat utilities. Your save will be reverted and your spot will go to the next person on the list. Programs like LabourDF are fine.

Mandates

1.) Report anything noteworthy that happens.

2.) Population cap is 200. Don't drown nobles or immigrants.

3.) Post at least one update per season.

Demands

1.) Screenshots. 3-5 per update. More if you want to.

2.) Post in character. Nothing fancy is required.

The terrain is glacial with access to all civs:

We've started with no axes, on account of the treeless terrain:

Strike the Earth!

First update will be posted tomorrow. You can also signup if you want.

I will mod in plastic as a resource.  I will then tweak the Dwarven civ entry so that coins are only made out of plastic, and are called "credit cards".
I will make dwarves purchase things with bushels of credit cards.  It will be a mockery of both systems.
It will be stupid.  But it will be gloriously stupid.

    Former Leaders:
  • 1.) PresidentEvil
Founded fortress and established "the basics", reign cut tragically short at mid-summer by computer problems.
  • 2.) Tarrasque
Took over from where previous leader mid-summer and took the fortress through the winter. Saw to the basics of farming were established and the nessisities of dwarven life were fulfilled. Created the magma smelters and forges gifting the next leader with some metals to play with before passing the leadership onto the next one for a break.
  • 3.) Kylaer
  • 4.) Gaulgath
Recruited more souls into the military, equippped military, created defeses near entrance, and completed all noble-owned rooms. Reign ended after he passed in the crown to rejoin his marksdwarves.
  • 5.) Veroule
    Current Leader: Short_dwarf
    Leaders to Be:

  • 5.) Bricktop

Are you considering Granite a cheat tool? The one that lets you add walls for like where you mined out some minerals?

Certaintly. It can be misused.

Goblin horde approaching undefended fortress? Wall them up and they won't harm you any more.

Well, it is used for a feature will have later on and it would be rather obvious if someone was using it to be abusive to the system. I just like it cause I can make rooms for people without having non-decorated walls, which bothers me.

Oh, as a note, Wether you allow it or not, sign me up.

If you have to cut out gems for a mood, you can rewall. Ore in the walls, you can't rewall.

Anything else, ask before you try it.

Got it Evil, may I ask where you are planning on making our grand fortress at? Before River? After River? After Chasm? :P

I usually build my forts beyond the river and the chasm. All my smithing goes right up against the magma river.

EDIT: Okay, we've got a preliminary lineup for our group of motley criminals and psychopaths. They are:

->1.) PresidentEvil
2.) Tarrasque
3.) Kylaer
4.) Gaulgath
5.) Veroule
6.) Short_dwarf
7.) RPB
8.) Metalax

Signups are still open. For the moment.

Alrighty, this'll be my first fortress actually beyond the chasm. Are you setting up floodgate farming? I am assuming you are since I doubt your farms are going to be that far from the main fortress. Unless of course the river\chasm area is really small on this map.

If there's room, I'll play too. Assuming we're not planning on bailing once the new version comes out (since going through 6 year-long turns might take you through to the release...)

If I got a hold of my turn today I would probrably have it done by tomarrow. Although, that depends on what my goals were. Mostly what I am planning on doing is making sure we have booze, food, and security. After that I will probrably start up an underground forest so the person three turns after me can get some wood.
