How do you feel about the use of guns in this setting?

We know how to make them and they're useful, mainline production.
- 4 (33.3%)
They seem out of place and run rather counter to a fantasy setting, avoid them.
- 2 (16.7%)
Get outta here, nerd, nobody finds guns that interesting.
- 1 (8.3%)
Go ahead and have the NPCs make em, but not worth player input.
- 1 (8.3%)
Support, but they shouldn't be the standard weapons.

The word "tactical" is basically a joke on this forum, and since we'd be putting nukes on a blimp (an already ridiculious idea), I figured why not make things just a little more dumb. Although we could make hand-grenade sized nukes eventually...those would be semi-tactical, right?

Actually, nuke-blimps aren't totally unfeasible. Some airships can fly at exceedingly high altitude, meaning that use of small nukes on the ground might allow them to remain unharmed. Definitely no thermonukes, 'cause one you can't really build those, and two the mushroom clouds go higher than hydrogen probably can carry you.

And if we have a blimp, we could just put a bunch of cannons that can turn downwards and just drop heavy stuff on whatever we're attacking if we don't have any nukes.

Yep. A zeppelin will be of great use to you. I'd probably recommend a hard-frame airship rather than a blimp for battle use if you can manage it, but blimps should be cheap enough for you to make a few small ones too.

Scouting blimps and war zeppelins armed with nukes. This is starting to sound more and more like a weird WWI and WWII combination. With dwarves. Sounds like fun!

I was planning rigid framed blimps, since I am the one working the most on them, and as for a safe place, I just ment having work areas that aren't of great risk to anyone and everyone inside them, not necessarily a bunker, though we should rebuild the fortifications on the surface.

If you can get one working and prove it's usefullness, I think the mountainhome would be willing to send you a (possibly) large amount of materials and workers.

Even a semifunctional model flying machine sent back to the Mountainhome would garner a considerable further dedication of resources to your project. At this point your fortress is effectively Area 51, both an advanced research base and potentially a containment site for super weird stuff, namely you guys.

Hey, so long as we don't have an army of pissed-off dwarves at the gates, I'm fine with whatever they want to use this place for. I'd rather not die, but that might not be an option.

We need aluminum, for light sturdy constructions. Steam engines, namely.

Aluminum steam engines sound like a horrifyingly bad idea.

Aluminum is definetely not what you want to use for steam engines. If we had titanium, that might work. And an alloy with titanium in it might be even better. But not just aluminum. That's nowhere near strong enough for a steam engine.

Anyone ever read the book series leviathan? Because this is very similar to the path we are taking now. Now all we need to do is get into genetic engineering.
